Here is a picture of the intake tube: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v489/ruddin3/DSCN1870.jpg Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about refinishing the tube? Any tips/tricks when refinishing carbon fiber? Are normal sandblasting techniques okay for use on bare carbon fiber? Any specific chemical strippers that could be used? Would a decent body shop be able to deal with this? Any suggestions of shops in the SF Bay Area? Drive Safely, Raza

Ted asks: >So removing the CDV even helps without a LTW flywheel? > >UUC says won't make as much difference: >http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html%5Ftechtip/techtips/check_valve.htm > >Figure a 5 min job can't hurt, eh? Thoughts, tips, comments, free beers? >ted Certainly does. When I was test-driving lots of M3's looking for the woofer that I bought (it's being less dog like by the day..) more than one owner/salesman commented I was the first guy who could drive it without stalling it a few times. That was 'cause I had an M-Coupe for 2 years with it.. I got the stalling routine out of the way on the M-Coupe. That is ALL the CDV doing that. It didn't allow fine modulation so it is harder to tell when you need to start giving a bit of throttle. Ditto on downshifts - you aren't *quite* sure where it's gonna engage, so you may get a bit of mismatch between engine and road speed. It's much better. Worth doing. Be even more worth doing if it got done in 5 minutes.. :-) Oh - one point Rob didn't make - the valve on the M3 is a restrictor - a small hole to limit the flow of fluid. As you try to push fluid through it faster - the force needed goes up. It also effects disengaging the clutch, something the actual "CDV" doesn't (since it is a one way valve..) _______D_o_n__________S_p_r_i_n_g__L_a_k_e__H_t_s____________ Don Eilenberger, Spring Lk Hts, NJ NJ SHore BMW Riders - http://www.njsbmwr.org/ E39 Enthusiasts Group - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bmwe39/ '03 525iT, '98 M3C/5, '87 K75S

#3. FS: Dinan Camber Plates - from Raza Uddin

Date: Sat, 23 Apr 2005 01:25:33 -0700 From: Raza Uddin <raza.uddin@gmail.com> Subject: FS: Dinan Camber Plates For sale is a set of lightly used Dinan camber plates for the E36 BMW M3 (1995-1999). From the Dinan website: The Camber Plates provide enhanced grip in the turns by inducing more negative camber on the front wheels through relocation of the strut mounting points inward. The result is a dramatic reduction of understeer and immediate turn in. The plates come with all mounting hardware and are in great condition. They were used for less than 15,000 miles and look almost new. Price new from Dinan is upwards of $250. I am selling for $150 OBO. In February, 2004 I had the upper radiator neck break on my '98 M3 (83,000 miles, original radiator) while a doing moderately high speed U turn. The break occurred during the turn (noticed immediately after completing the turn by the coolant drops on the windshield). Luckily, my car was still covered by the CPO warranty. Towing, radiator, expansion tank, water pump, antifreeze, and the radiator fan clutch were covered by the warrantee. I suppose that I should be checking out the condition of the motor mounts. How does one determine whether the mounts need replacement? Thanks in advance for your comments. Hard to prove, but sounds reasonable.

The car is serviced by the local BMW dealer (Don Mackey). I had my wife do this while I observed. The engine was rock solid. Blips were up to 5K RPM (mostly by accident). This is the first time that I have managed to get her behind the wheel of the M3. She won't drive it because it has a manual transmission. I got a convertible windscreen (the thing that goes behind the front seats) from them for $22, vs $400 at a dealer and most Ebay auctions of $250 and up.. It will be as they describe it. The windscreen was described as having a small hole in it. Took me a while to find it - it's about 1/8" in diameter. Shipping was OK also. Had it in about 5 days. _______D_o_n__________S_p_r_i_n_g__L_a_k_e__H_t_s____________ Don Eilenberger, Spring Lk Hts, NJ NJ SHore BMW Riders - http://www.njsbmwr.org/ E39 Enthusiasts Group - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bmwe39/ '03 525iT, '98 M3C/5, '87 K75S

Date: Sat, 23 Apr 2005 22:01:06 -0500 From: "Robert Exconde - 99e36m2" <99e36m3@Exconde.com> Subject: Low Idle? Hello, While I was trying to park today, It seemed like my car almost stalled. When I stopped the car, clutch out. I would turn my steering wheel and the car would almost stall. The engine light flickered on when I was turning the steering wheel. The light stayed on a bit longer when it was turned to locked. It felt like it was going to stall. Any ideas as to what this would be? It seems like turning the steering wheel is taking a toll on the engine .... TIA, Robert 115K 99E36M3

#8. Best front bumper for E36 M3? - from Jack - Elephant Motorsports

Date: Sun, 24 Apr 2005 14:00:56 -0400 From: "Jack - Elephant Motorsports" <jack@elephantmotorsports.com> Subject: Best front bumper for E36 M3? Ok, so I'm currently running the factory LTW bumper/splitter set up on my CM M3. This crap is super heavy so I'd like to replace it with something lighter weight. Not sure if I'm so concerned about an adjustable splitter but it definitely needs something more than the factory "lip"..and since I'm in mod, lightweight is key. I'm running the PTG rear CF adjustable wing but generally I leave it flat anyway. If anyone has general comments on the aero, especially replacement part ideas, please let me know. I'd like to get a new front bumper in the next couple months, this thing needs a little diet I think. Thanks for suggestions! Also, anyone have a stock front undertray taking up space? I need one. The socket that I use to take of the canister for the M3 (mandatory content) doesn't look like it will fit. thanks, rob ----------------------------------------- CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE This e-mail message and any attachments are only for the use of the intended recipient and may contain information that is privileged, confidential or exempt from disclosure under applicable law.
