Two economical sources for the 7.0mm x 1.0 (34mm overall length) that works for most BMWs. http://store.sevensaturdays.com/russpeedblee.html offers Speed Bleeders for $8.99 for a pair and free shipping. This is an 'overstock/excess inventory' store, so don't know how long they will last. Hard to beat this price! I bought thru them and got them in 3 days. http://www.performancecenter.com/products/?productID=1043685 has Speed Bleeders for $10.83 and if you look them up through Google, there's a 5% off coupon thru May 25.

What you're seeing isn't the clear coat - it's the resin that makes up the carbon fiber mix.. carbon fiber is nothing but fiber covered/impregnated with an epoxy resin - just like fiberglass - but stronger due to the fiber used. I see no way short of replacing it to fix it. This shouldn't have happened unless you soaked it in some very strong solvents. #4. Automatic climate control final stage (aka blower resistor) - from Townsend, William

Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2005 11:47:25 -0400 From: "Townsend, William" <wtownsen@enterasys.com> Subject: Automatic climate control final stage (aka blower resistor) More of an FYI here...... So my 328 climate control was going nutty on me, wandering fan speed, no fan etc. So seeing how the unit was not doing the flickering like it does when that nasty capacitor goes on the circuit board I figure blower resistor. So I go to dealer to get one. Get home, open up the dash from underneath drivers side and can't find this part anywhere. Hmmm, look at the wiring diagram for the 328 with automatic climate control and the blower is hooked to this thing called a final stage. It takes the place of the blower resistor. Nice, now I have the wrong part. Back to the dealer with the part number off my final stage, replaced with part # 64 11 6 929 540 and it is $100 with the CCA discount. Ouch. Fixed the problem though. Funny, the parts guy asks me if I had the pleasure of replacing the head unit, he is seeing tons of them failed. I guess they run about $300. So if you have a normal operating automatic climate control but no/some/too much fan replace the final stage part. If you ask for what most of us ask for, a blower resistor you will be going back for the final stage. Uggg! --Bill 97 328 white 96 M3 red

Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2005 10:57:48 -0600 From: Robert Brooks <m3rb@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: Refinishing Carbon Fiber I agree it looks like the epoxy failing, but a finish coat on top of the epoxy is sometimes done, so can't rule that out from the picture. Perhaps this came from a wrecked car, and it got overstressed? If so, I would expect some give as you squeeze it, whereas an intact unit would be totally rigid. While it would be difficult to make it look factory-new, if you found the right solvent and carefully removed the cracked areas, then applied new epoxy, it might look and function adequately. > > What you're seeing isn't the clear coat - it's the resin that > makes up the carbon fiber mix.. carbon fiber is nothing but > fiber covered/impregnated with an epoxy resin - just like > fiberglass - but stronger due to the fiber used. > > I see no way short of replacing it to fix it. I was hoping something like that is possible. I don't know if you can treat the bare carbon fiber like metal in that you might be able to media blast it clean and then spray clearcoat on it. I figure if I were to re-resin the tube, it would delaminate again as it would have a proper bond again. I am going to give Dinan a call today when I get a chance. I hope they'll be proactive in trying to help me get it fixed. My experience with them (after buying a used Dinan signature vehicle) was less than helpful. I somehow got the feeling that since I was not the one who spent thousands to buy their modifications new, I shouldn't receive much help. Drive Safely, Raza

#9. [OT] 318i Purchase/Ownership Questions - from philip

Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2005 11:41:53 -0700 From: "philip" <estorilphil@verizon.net> Subject: [OT] 318i Purchase/Ownership Questions Sorry for the OT content... Anyway, I'm now going with either my 14-15mpg Suburban or my 19-21mpg M3 for commute now and with fuel prices creeping up steadily here in California (2.6-2.7ish/gal prem), I'm thinking about getting another car for commuting. One possible alternative is an E36 318i sedan. That said, can anyone offer comments/suggestions on purchasing as well as ownership? I think I'd like to find 97-98my or something. I think this model got discontinued in 99 but am not sure. I'm especially interested in fuel-mileage and reliability/issues information. Also, I'm assuming the fuel filter setup is the same as the other 6 cylinder E36? Meaning that only the paper filter catridge needs to be replaced and it sits on top of the engine? TIA...
