So I have been running Cobalt spec-VR for last season and am on the fence looking at the Hawk HT-14. I liked the firm bite of the cobalts but they are going to be $210 for the M3 fronts and some have said the hawks may last longer. I have also heard the ht-10s are rotor, dust and rim friendly but sounds like the ht-14s have a firm upfront bite like the cobalts and was thinking of using those. Could not find email on the list about the 14's and wondered if they were friendly like the 10's....... (hope they do not have the corrosive dust!!) Any one been down this road through these pads? I don't want the corrosive pads since I drive the car on track pads all season and don't switch them for the drive to/from the track. Also don't want them eating my floating rotors at street temps either. (Not my daily driver, don't care about the brake noise) --Bill 96 M3 red

(FWIW, I'm seeing 2.90+ here in the SF Bay Area. Granted, I focus mainly on Chevron's :-)) > Also, I'm assuming the fuel filter setup is the same as the > other 6 cylinder E36? If you have a Bentley you can confirm this, but looking at the diagram at RealOEM.com, it appears that the fuel filter on a 318i is located under the car, just like it is on most later 6-cylinder cars (some earlier E36s had it tucked up under the intake manifold - PITA to get to). > Meaning that only the paper filter catridge needs > to > be replaced and it sits on top of the engine? Huh? Maybe you mean oil filter? Jim Bassett

The HT-10s are all of the above. I prefer more initial bite and had a hard time with the (lack of) linearity of the pads, but other people who know what the hell they're talking about (Hi James!) really like them, so YMMV ... - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar

Enough that there was a worldwide shortage of the Final Stage (what a German name eh?) module for a number of months. They seem to have fixed the problem with them sometime around 2000 - so hopefully the one you got was made after that date. Price seems higher than I've seen for the E39 part.. _______D_o_n__________S_p_r_i_n_g__L_a_k_e__H_t_s____________©1946________ Don Eilenberger, Spring Lk Hts, NJ - http://www.njsbmwr.org/ '98 M3c/5, '03 525iT, '87 K75S

Anyone know of a shop that does a nice job somewhere in the middle range to lower end, $1500-$2500. Thanks Carey

I think you're the only person I've ever heard of not liking the HT-10s. That being said back on the topic of driving on race pads all the time I would say no Hawk *race* pad is good for that. For someone to do that you'd have to run something like a Porterfield R4, they'll be noisy and dusty but as far as I know they won't chew up your rotors on the street and even though your wheels will be black with brake dust they'll still clean up pretty well. Personally I didn't like those pads that much and went back to using Hawks. Carlos.
