It's probably not seated, or partial seated. It lives under the connector boot between the airflow meter and the throttle body/intake manifold.

When I had my intake apart last-time the hose connecting the intake to the ICV wasn't connected at the top and it behaved almost exactly as you describe except that above 2,000 rpm it wasn't really controllable either; it just wanted to accelerate. Re-check all of your vacuum connections even if it means disassembling the intake again would be my SWAG. -- Jamie Howton 2000 M5 1995 M3 Hampshire, IL

#3. Hawk Brake Pads - HPS experience? - from Mel Silva

Date: Tue, 26 Apr 2005 20:03:50 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: Hawk Brake Pads - HPS experience? Hi all, I've noticed something odd about the Hawk HPS pads I have had on the car about 6 months now. Tell me if anyone else has had similar experiences. My car is a daily driver and although commute traffic is nothing like when I was in San Jose, CA, I still see plenty of stop and go. It just takes me an hour to go 20 miles instead of and hour to go 5 miles. It's after these stop and go driving conditions that I get a brake vibration. I'm almost positive that it is pad material build up because one good stop with some heat being put into the pads seems to clean it right up (meaning the vibration goes away). If it is just pad material, I'll chock it up to one of the little irritations of driving a modified (slightly) car, and may opt for different pads next time (although the HPS pads were recommended by you folks before I bought them). TIA for any thoughts on this, Mel PS> Gas prices in Houston -->(snicker) 93 octane for $2.059/gal

I got them from Tire Rack and they were offering a very good sale price on the front sizes. for the Half day that I have driven them they are great. I will be posting another update in the future after I have more miles on them. So far they are quieter and offer a softer ride. They are look wider (based on how they cover the rim lip) and the grip seems excellent. I will report more later. Regards, Clyde

Any opinions? I would agree, those are fine probably even into the intermediate levels. >Should I be looking at HT-10s or are they for more hardcore track cars? Yes they're for the hardcore (racer) crowd. A good first set of track pads are the Porterfield R4 since they're easy on the rotors. Carlos.

(cobalt -> hawk HT-14) Dave- I've never done a DE on stock pads, so I can't comment on them. Nor do I have any experience with HawK HPS. I started out using Porterfield R4-S pads, which I also use year around on the street. They are rotor friendly and do not have the corrosive dust. Rain is no problem (I live in duck country). So, if you choose these, you won't have to swap them for a track day. As far as performance, by the end of my 1st DE, the R4-S pads would fade towards the end of the afternoon sessions. Don't know whether it was poor braking technique, hot weather, ATE fluid or ????. I can only surmise the stock pads would have been even worse. When I felt like it was time for a better pad, I went to the R4 pad for track days. Again, rotor friendly and no corrosive dust. I also upgraded to Motul600 fluid. And, now I'm getting ready to try some Hawk HT-10s or HT-14s. BTW, all my track time to date has been at T-hill. I believe I read that it's fairly hard on brakes. My thinking is if you choose the R4-S pads, they are a great street pad and also a decent DE pad. There is little if any downside. I know others with more experience than I have recommended staying with stock. But, if I was fading R4-S pads as a noob, I suspect stock pads would have been even worse. Go direct to Porterfield and get a 20% discount for being a member of Suzy's list. Good luck. When will you be going out? I'll be there 5/13 with TrackMasters. Just got some parts in from Zygmunt, aka bimmerparts.com, and they threw one in by accident. Looks like a part for an RC car, not a full scale bimmer. -J

I was happy to pay "only" $2.83 for premium (91) yesterday. Grrr. (BTW, I have no experience with the Hawk HPS pads :-)) Jim Bassett
