But I just remember I also got the JTD tower bar. Anyone have the same set up? I'm worry they may hit if the engine rotate a little bit. There is no adjustment on my tower bar. TIA, Kin Fong NJ Chapter

#2. Climate Control Headaches after replacement - from Stefano G

Date: Mon, 9 May 2005 16:17:03 -0400 (EDT) From: "Stefano G" <stefanoale@excite.com> Subject: Climate Control Headaches after replacement Ok here is the story in short: ’98 E36 M3 with bad – aka cycling on and off etc… - climate control. After 2 replacements covered by aftermarket warranty the issue is still there. Worth noting is that the “windshield defrosting air outlet” – or whatever you call it - is stuck shut. An independent mechanic has quoted me over $800 to replace what he thinks is a $50 part that has broken but that will require to take apart the whole dash. Is it possible that the stuck part is making the unit go stupid? Certainly, having the climate control unit shut off and direct 200+ degree air to my feet in the summer is not cool! I was going to drop it off to the dealer – I hate the dealer – and see if after I sign over my life – that’s why I hate the dealer - they can diagnose anything. Any bright ideas? Thanks

Sounds like 2 separate issues (and if the 2 replacements have all directed hot air at your feet, I might suggest that it's never actually been replaced? That's WAY too much of a coincidence). Anyway, I don't know about the air outlet issue, but the mis-directed hot air issue has been discussed and solved here before (I've BTDT). I don't have the link handy, but you can search the list archives and locate it. Requires opening up the HVAC unit and replacing a capacitor on the circuit board. Fairly easy if you have soldering skills :-) Hope that helps, Jim Bassett

If you ping me tonight, I can go look in the garage.. I just bought a selection of BMW connectors to figure out which ones go in the 4-pin connector used on the euro-headlights (I'm making a REAL PnP - complete with the factory connector).. Anyway - I have several at home complete with PN's. Send me an email sometime after 7PM EST.. _______D_o_n__________S_p_r_i_n_g__L_a_k_e__H_t_s____________©1946________ Don Eilenberger, Spring Lk Hts, NJ - http://www.njsbmwr.org/ '98 M3c/5, '03 525iT, '87 K75S

#9. windshield/insurance co advice needed - from Patrick Kelly

Date: Tue, 10 May 2005 16:07:05 -0400 From: "Patrick Kelly" <pkelly@agincourtcapital.com> Subject: windshield/insurance co advice needed The wife's E39's windshield cracked the other day when I was washing it (hot day + cold water=crack). Dealer wants $880 (windshield alone is $500+) which is high, but I don't want to hire some dood in a pickup truck doing a half-assed job using crummy glass. Now my insurance company (USAA) says the price is beyond the reasonable and ordinary, and besides, they only cover like-quality of OEM, not OEM. My deductible is $500, so I'm the one taking the hit. So, I'm not happy. Anyone have any suggestions? Still can't believe the thing cracked like that. Sheesh. TIA, Pat Kelly~ pkelly@agincourtcapital.com
