Texas requires a front plate. I think or at least it should be true, if you can prove you were not driving the car at the time, you won't have to pay the fine. I don't know if the ticket would be issued to the person who was driving or not. But think about it, how can you get a ticket for running a red light if you were some place else? Now, if it was for some kind of equipment failure like a burned out tail light, I guess the ticket could be issued to the car owner regardless if you were driving. But a moving violation, I would think you would have to be caught in the act. Or maybe your friend was caught by "The Minority" pre-crime squad? <g> Lowell Seaton - guilty of several pre-crime speeding tickets -----Original Message----- From: david tow <david_tow@hotmail.com> To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Tue, 17 May 2005 15:52:05 -0500 Subject: [E36M3] Traffic citation Date: Tue, 17 May 2005 13:44:40 -0700 From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: Traffic citation I am posting the following for my friend. Please help! Hi All, I received a citation through the mail (CVC 21453A RED/STOP VEHICULAR) as the registered owner of the vehicle involved (I think this stems from a hidden traffic camera, but no photograph was provided with the citation). However, somebody else was driving my car when this happened and I was not in the vehicle. What should I do to get the charge dismissed? Thanks in advance for your help! #4. Oil Pressure Question with light weight flywheel - from Dave Arnold
Top
Date: Tue, 17 May 2005 23:27:27 -0400 From: "Dave Arnold" <air2daa@insightbb.com> Subject: Oil Pressure Question with light weight flywheel I have a question about oil pressures in my car. I have the dual readout SPA oil pressure/temperature gauges in my car. The pressure and temperature senders are located in a "Y" distribution block along with the factory warning pressure indicator, all of which is mounted with a hollow bolt into the factory oil pressure sensor on the back of the oil filter housing (3 sensors into a hollow Y block with a hollow bolt connecting to the factory location). I have the SPA gauge set to average the pressure over 3.0 seconds and to give me a warning light if the pressure drops below 5 PSI (where the car has always idled at). Until recently, these settings have (seemed) to be accurate and not caused any concern. However, recently I have had my mechanic install a UUC light weight flywheel and M5 clutch and soon after noticed that the oil pressure's would drop while the throttle was either lightly depressed (approx 5% of full throttle), at idle or at deceleration. Actually, several times the pressure would indicate a vacuum pressure of 5 to 15 PSI when at 0% throttle and coasting to a stop while the car is in gear. At no time has the dashboard "idiot" light come on, the car has the proper amount of oil (1Qt over full mark). During all other times, cruise, acceleration, etc, the temp pressures seem to be in the normal range (50 to 60 PSI). My gut feeling is it is the gauge set up but I'm not sure and would hate to ruin the engine by ignoring the gauge: So here are my questions: 1. Could: a) the lightweight flywheel be a factor and why? b) could this be some type of impending failure (oil pump nut or the pump itself?) 2. What suggestions are there for troubleshooting this? 3. What is the best location for a oil pressure probe to be located? 4. What are the normal cruise, full throttle and idle oil pressures for our cars? Any help or suggestion is appreciated. Thanks, Dave A 95 ///M3

Yikes. So you're saying your car has 5 psi of oil pressure at idle? If so then yeah something is screwed up. My 244,000 mile oil burning M20 on my POS E30 idles at 17 psi when hot and I was worried about that. BTW your warning light should be set at something probably north of 25 or 30-ish psi IMO. I think the factory ones (or so I hear) are set a 7psi and most people feel that's way too late to throw the light. IMO the ltw flywheel should not affect any of this. -Carlos.

Sounds like a much better idea than hard mounting for people who want something firmer than stock but less punitively priced than factory Group N. Also installed GC shims. Many thanks to the list for instruction & advise....Also, I installed Bilstien HDs (stock springs) & Rear Shock Mounts a few years back.. I went for alignment yesterday & all is well except they could not get front & rear camber in spec.Mechanic says he's at the limits to get rear toe in Spec. Front spec is -1.3 to -2.3 My readings are -0.53 & -0.40. Rear Spec. is -2.31 to -2.51 My readings are -1.56 and -2.06.Units are degrees-dot-minutes. The car drives like new again ! But, with 160k miles, I can imagine something else could be worn. Is this anything to worry about?Wheel bearings feel okay, but could they cause this?Could installation of strut or shock mount reinforcement cause this?Mark 1997 Sedan _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!

#11. Skirting the Issue.... - from KResener@aol.com

Date: Wed, 18 May 2005 11:00:48 EDT From: KResener@aol.com Subject: Skirting the Issue.... Trailering my car home from Putnam this past Sunday, the ratchet tie downs on both sides managed to dislodge the front portion of both of the side skirts, right behind the front wheels. I haven't had time since then to really get down and look at it, hope to tonight, but as I unloaded it it appeared that the front of the skirt is secured by one of those expanding rivet things, and that they were pulled sideways by the straps and thus ripped out. Anyone had to take these off and put back on? Is the plastic rivet all that I likely have to replace? Thanks for any guidance!
