If this is true... 8" / 2 = 4" = 101.6mm (centerline to lip) 101.6mm + 47mm = 148.6mm (hub to inside lip) my 9" wide BBSs have a 42mm offset and clear the front struts by about 2-3mm with a 10mm spacer... 9" / 2 = 4.5" = 114.3mm (centerline to lip) 114.3mm + 42mm = 156.3mm (hub to inside lip) 156.3mm - 10mm [spacer] = 146.3mm (adjust for spacer) Stock 8.5" M3 wheels have a 40mm offset... 8.5" / 2 = 4.25" = 107.95mm (centerline to lip) 107.95mm + 40mm = 147.95mm (hub to inside lip) I would guess that the Z4 wheel would either barely fit or barely rub on the front struts. It's a tough call. Worst case is that you would need to run a very thin spacer up front. Rear clearance shouldn't be a problem. There's gobs of space there. -zs --- Don Eilenberger <deilenberger@verizon.net> wrote: > Date: Wed, 25 May 2005 00:04:59 -0400 > From: Don Eilenberger <deilenberger@verizon.net> > Subject: Z4 rims on an E36/M3? > > Will they fit? 8"x17" Style 106 > > > Don Eilenberger, Spring Lk Hts, NJ JMP#1, PSJ, > SquidBOOF#1 > deilenberger@verizon.net > NJ Shore BMW Riders web page: > http://www.njsbmwr.org/ > Moderator BMW E39 Enthusiast Group: > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bmwe39 > ==================================================================== > "Argue with an idiot and he will drag you down to > his level and > beat you with experience" - Dilbert > "The difference between intelligence and stupidity > is - there is a > limit to intelligence" - Anon > ==================================================================== > > > > > ************************************************* > Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our > sponsors: > > Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com > Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com > Eurosport High Performance > http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com > Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com > Treehouse Racing http://www.treehouseracing.com > Elephant Motorsports Inc. > http://www.elephantmotorsports.com > > DIGEST INFORMATION: > http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm > ************************************************* > > >

#5. 330i ZHP / E36 M3 or E46 M3 ??? - from Scott McClung

I am the one who is actually looking to move back into a more useful car from my Z06 and considering the following: E36 M3/4-door (maybe a coupe, but rather go 4-door as more useful to me) E46 ZHP (2004) E46 M3 (2002-2003) This is not a track car, just looking for a daily driver and business car that is fun to drive and has a back seat mainly for the kids. For real business days where I have more than 1 extra person along, I'd drive my SUV. My thoughts on the 3 options are as follows: - E36 M3 is an old favorite of mine, still stands the test of time, available in 4-door, can have some fun modding it, most drivers oriented car, but will require some time to spend on doing mods and maintenance. - E46 M3 adds some luxury and refinement, loses some driver feel, gets me closer to the power level I’m used to in the vette, newer car so less time on maint / repairs – no mods needed, bigger rear seat area but only 2 doors, nice feature is the integrated bike rack mounts like the E39 had - 330i-PP is the least drivers oriented car, not as much power, but roomier 4 door and still a good handling car, best warrantee coverage as I would likely get a CPO car, same bike rack attachments, fun car to drive – probably the best true daily driver in the bunch, but the concern is would I miss having an M. Desperately needs a Rogue short shift kit and removal of CDV valve. 2. "rasp" at high revs is a little annoying. Needs a good aftermarket exhaust or "rasp" pipe offered by Turner. 3. Power is great and refinement is much improved. 4. Driver "feel" is a bit dulled but is more than made up for in power, interior quality and overall contstruction. A good aftermarket coil over setup would do the trick. I sold my 1998 to a fellow lister here and he seems very happy. I am very happy with the choice and prefer the car to my 2002 Porsche 996 (911). I'm upgrading the brake lines (Stop Tech stainless) and removing the CDV valve this weekend... Shel Hart

#7. Aux Fan Blade Replacement - from Michael Hellard

Date: Thu, 26 May 2005 01:18:15 -0400 From: "Michael Hellard" <mhellard@columbus.rr.com> Subject: Aux Fan Blade Replacement I have a 95 M3 Coupe and need to replace the blade on the electric fan in front of the radiator. The housing and motor are fine, but the fan itself is done. I was told by the local dealer that they couldn't just order the blade, but would have to order the whole assembly for $350+! Does anyone know a source for either an OEM blade, or a direct bolt (clip) on replacement? Having previously done the fan delete mod... the M is now sulking in the garage awaiting a blade. (I know I could put the other fan back on for now... but the Jeep's top comes off and the weather has been nice recently.) Any help would be most appreciated, Mike H. mhellard@columbus.rr.com

I would tend to think the stock suspension would probably do the trick for me. I was pretty happy with the stock set-up in the E36 M3 I had as well. I owned an E39 M5 for awhile and loved the power, smoothness and luxury as well as general fit and finish / quality - especially in the interior. But I really did not like the dulled driver feel, the steering was too boosted for me, and the car generally felt like the heavy pig that it is. So I guess I am thinking the E46 M3 may successfully bridge the gap between the E36 M3 and the E39 M5. Or something like that.... Depending upon your need for a real back seat, the E46 M3 may not work for you. Getting in and out are somewhat of a challenge and rear seat legroom is severly lacking in the coupe. I test drove several E46 M3s before buying my E39 and the lack of a real back seat was the deciding factor; well as well as the torque, fantastic interior and comfort of the M5. I don't mind the steering feel, it isn't bad at all in "Sport" mode and I still have my E36 for when I want that go-kart like handling. The power of the E46 M3 is nice when you want to rev the snot out of it, but for commuting copious amounts of torque is more useful. I had a 2002 330i 5 Spd (Non- ZHP) for 3 years and 60K miles. There is no comparison between that car (I doubt the extra 10HP of the ZHP makes much difference) and an E36 M3. My modded E36 is much faster than my 330i ever was. IMNSHO, if you need/wan't to stay with a 3 series I would say either an E46 or E36 M3. If you need a useable (for adults) back seat get another M5. I raced an E46 M3 nationally in SCCA Solo II A-Stock in 2003. I was very impressed with this car as it did not feel as heavy as I thought it would. Great power, handling, and very solid. Not an E30 M3 or an E36 M3, but a better daily driver than either one of those. I would have one as a daily driver if I didn't have too many cars already (at least that is what my wife tells me :-).
