The Pagid "stock" pad? OK. I think I actually have these on the rear of the M3. Pretty much the same as the Jurids as far as I can tell. But they are on the rear (which doesn't do a whole lot of braking) and solely street/freeway driving <- in case you;re not sure, that's teh proverbial "grain of salt" disclaimer :-) Jim Bassett

They squeak now and then, correctable with the sticky spray stuff, last a long time, and don't seem to be hard on rotors. I plan to get them again, unless I hear of something better from someone who has done an A-B comparison. (Thanks for recommending them, G. O., if you're out there.) Robert ***_ _*

Simple: stock pads (Jurids) & plain ol' Brembo rotors. Simple & cheap solution, and it works. Having said that, I *may* try another pad when it comes time for new ones, just to compare/contrast. Knowing my luck though, I'll fook it up and end up back with stock pads :-) For the track/driving school (intermediate level and above): A separate set of front Brembos and PF97s pads all around. Beginner/novice level: stock is sufficient. Autox?: Can't really suggest anything, since when I autox'd I used whatever happened to be on the car at the time (stock or PF97) :-) Didn't seem to matter much for me. Racing?: Hawk Blues. Plain or slotted rotors (there may be some benefit from the slotting in this application, but <shrug> can't say for sure, since I haven't noticed any change once the slots wear down on the F rotors on the race car :-))

Rotors thinking maybe Zimmerman slotted (since lots of great deals on them...).

If they're not less than ~$45/rotor go with the Brembos (at least, that's what I recall I paid for Brembos a while ago). The pads are not listed on the web site, but I got them from Rob at UUC Motorworks. I don't race, but for street use I could not be happier with them. They are 1000% cleaner than the stock pads and I noticed no difference from the performance of the stock pads. No noise either. Very slightly dirtier than the Axxis Deluxe I'm running on another car, in other words the wheels get dirty about a fast as the whole car instead of in two days. Is anyone else running these? Any idea why nobody ever mentions ceramics? But it's worlds easier with it removed...plus you don't chance scuffing the leather on the wheel...so why take a chance. Two torx screws in the back to release the airbag and then a 5/8" bolt holding the steering wheel on (make sure to mark the column in order to put it back correctly)... --- Jeremy Conners <jeremy.conners@comcast.net> wrote: > I need to replace a bulb for the instrument cluster illumination. #8. RIP My Optima Battery - from aek@pumpkininc.com

Date: Thu, 9 Jun 2005 22:02:54 -0400 From: "aek@pumpkininc.com" <aek@pumpkininc.com> Subject: RIP My Optima Battery Hi All. After almost exactly 10 years of use, my Optima Red Top battery finally died. I ran it for about 7 years in my wife's Jaguar XJ-S V12, which has an inadequate charging system. Then I replaced it with an Orange Top, and moved the old Red Top to my M3 LWT track car for another three years. As the Optima was dying, I had a few instances of some corrosion at the GND terminal, and now, even some water (!?) at the GND terminal. Won't hold a charge any more, so I got a replacement Red Top at Costco. The old Red Top was rated at 800CCA. The new one is 910 CA, 750 CCA. The case is slightly different, and -- most importantly for use in the M3 -- the post terminals are farther apart, which is good for the M3's battery cables. The M3's battery compartment is still perfectly dry and shows no effects from battery corrosion, etc. $11/year for a battery isn't bad. --Andrew -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

I never pulled the column or steering wheel. Simply drop the lower dash/foot panel, loosen the steering column, (two bolts). Pull down on the column/wheel while you wiggle the cluster out. No scratches or scuffs. Has anyone had any experience with getting motors from some of the advertisers in Roundel or another source. He was quoted a price of over $10k by the dealer. I have no idea what that engine goes for, but I would think there is someplace out there cheaper than the dealer to get one. any guidance is appreciated. Mandatory M3 content, looking for those silly vinyl numbers for DE's where can I get some? thanks, rob ----------------------------------------- CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE This e-mail message and any attachments are only for the use of the intended recipient and may contain information that is privileged, confidential or exempt from disclosure under applicable law.
