Hey Patrick, Some Falkens measure up much larger than the their stated size, just like race tires. However, in the case of the Falken RT-615's, they seem to match their specs pretty closely. I have been running Falken RT-615's 255/40-17 on 17 x 9, 45mm offset, SSR Comps since the beginning of March on my SCCA Solo STU '96 M3. I run the full TC Kline Koni DA coilover kit with TC Kline camber plates (from BimmerHaus) and the car has been lowered approximately 1 inch from stock. With two degrees of camber in the front (my street settings) I have to run a 15 mm spacer in the front to clear the strut. It just rubs ever so slightly on the outer fender lip on huge bumps, so I am happy with that. I am sure if I had it rolled it would then rub on the fender line where it meets the fender lip. With my race settings of 3.5 degrees camber in the front there is no rubbing at all. With two degrees of camber in the rear it rubbed on the inner wheel well over large bumps. I added 5mm spacers and it rubbed really badly on the outer fender lip and ever so slightly in the outer upper fender. I had Navid at Extreme Performance mildly roll the rear fender lips (he did an amazing job, it looks completely factory) which cured the rubbing on the fender lip, but I still had the slight rub in the outer upper fender. I got a set of 3mm spacers from TC Kline and now I have no rubbing at all. I hope that helps, -- Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com 1996 BMW M3, SCCA SFR Solo STU #73

I'm had run Falken 615, Kumho MX and VictoRacer V700 on SSR Comp 17 x 9 wheel. You will need either 10 or 15mm spacer. No fender rolling is needed. Clearance problem is usually on the struts side. Larry Chan 97 M3/4 -----Original Message----- Has it been done, can anyone confirm? Wheel offset is about 38mm we think. More important, will it clear the fender Thanks in advance, Patrick Goss

#7. For Sale: '96 M3 Project Car - from Skip Bacon
Top
Date: Fri, 10 Jun 2005 15:10:17 -0700 From: "Skip Bacon" <skip@talltalesfarm.com> Subject: For Sale: '96 M3 Project Car It's time to close out a very sad chapter of my car enthusiast career and move on. My '96 M3 spent 2 years at a SoCal "tuner" (who haRMS as many cars as he fixes) who was allegedly making slow progress building up a killer supercharged engine for the car - sent to him after 2 years of driving it with stage II supercharger and the suspension/brake mods described below. Turns out he was using my car as a source of engine parts and wiring and my wallet to finance his other schemes and had no apparent intention of ever finishing it. My interest in the car and more decisively my wife's patience have long since run out, so I need to sell the whole package off as is and hope that my loss (well into 6 figures between damage to the car and things paid for but not delivered) becomes a gain for some other deserving M3 nut. Someone with the time and patience could complete the project and have an ultimate E36 street car, or use the clean, tight body for a track car and fund sell off everything else. I do not have the space or time to part the car out, so it will be sold only as a rolling chassis, preferably complete. The few large loose parts (seats, Euro diff, etc.) are available separately. Car will be in the Bay Area (Peninsula) Monday, pictures and more details available next week. I can arrange shipping for the car but local pickup strongly preferred for anything else. Details on the car are as follows: - '96 2 door sunroof car, black on black; bought from first owner with 3,500 miles on it in 1997. Car has less than 50,000 total miles on it. NEVER hit or in an accident; bumper covers were repainted due to parking damage. Paint is overall very good, but the car has several dents from abuse during storage: 1 in leading edge of hood, good-sized crease in driver's side door edge, 1 on pass side body. Hood is scuffed but buffable. - Only body mods are LTW front splitter (LTW bumper core and support arms installed; "surf board" is off car) and PTG LTW rear wing with integrated brake light - includes risers and PTG documentation. Rear window and package shelf replaced to delete 3rd brake light. Clear taillights. - Rebuilt long block is installed in the car, includes Arrow rods, low-comp forged pistons, crank work, performance head w/cams, valves, springs, etc. No guarantees whatsoever on quality of engine work, a prudent buyer would disassemble and inspect. Engine was setup for supercharger, not included. - Apart from engine, engine bay is basically empty. DME, all wiring harnesses, fuse box, radiator, engine ancillaries, etc. were all removed. Wiring was all unplugged at driver's side footwell. Several boxes of engine bay parts accompany car, including brand-new OEM radiator, SPAL electric fan, silicon radiator hoses, etc, but many parts are not included. You would need a parts car to realistically get this put back together as a street car. 6 Plasma Solutions coils. I have 2 largely complete wiring harnesses, including a master fuse block, from a donor car that might be of help and are included. - 6 speed Euro transmission (was installed new and working great for 20k miles) included but out of car. No flywheel or clutch. Driveshaft rebuilt with heavy-duty U joints. - Supersprint exhaust. I have 1 cat assembly with rattly heat shields. Not sure if downpipes are included or not. - 3.64 rear with Quaife and LTW diff cover installed in car. Brand-new Blanton-rebuilt Euro diff (large case) 3.46 with Quaife, carrier, nose piece, etc. included separately - still in Blanton's packing, never run. Carrier needs to be blasted and painted and have new bushings installed. - Trick installed suspension: H&R coilovers, BMP adjustable rear arms, E30 aluminum front arms w/offset bushings, KMac camber plates - Mov'it big brakes front and rear, black calipers, custom stainless rear backing plates - 4 perfect condition LTW forged wheels w/new tires, stud conversion package - Interior is in very good condition. Have both original Vader manual seats (out of car) and Recaro Sport (black and grey cloth, with heat and cooling package) installed in car, using Recaro brackets. Also have a bolt of matching Recaro fabric and a spare set of rear seat cushions so they could be refinished to match. - Very trick stereo: Focal speakers front and rear (1 may be missing), 2 subs in custom box behind rear seat, 3 PPI amps - 2 mounted in custom rack in trunk. No head unit. Will evaluate how removeable the sub box and amp rack are, may sell separately. I'll entertain any "reasonable" offer, though reasonable really means whatever the market will bear. This has to be at least $5,000 worth of parts (diff was $1,200 plus rebuilding alone). Please spread word to anyone in the enthusiast or racer community who might be interested. #10. Cat-Back Exhaust Options - from Neil Maller
Top
Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2005 11:04:33 -0500 From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> Subject: Cat-Back Exhaust Options I've been thinking about exhaust options to replace my heavy stock system. Louder is OK within reasonable limits, but no droning allowed and no alienating the neighbours or setting off car alarms in parking garages. I still want to be able to hear my own radio. Obviously freeing up the exhaust for some extra power would be a Good Thing. Has anybody seen/heard/bought/tried the Ireland Engineering cat-back exhaust? See <http://tinyurl.com/9ahxw> At $455 for an all stainless system it seems pretty reasonable. I'm not all that thrilled by the dual muffler concept, which would seem to be inherently heavier for a given enclosed volume, as well as more expensive to build. The UUC System-U has a reputation for being very loud, and the new UUC RSC36 is absurdly expensive at $899. I know it's not normally very visible, but I find the ActiveAutowerke hex section folded metal design really goofy and butt ugly. I can't see paying more than $650 for a replacement cat-back system, and less would certainly be better (which brings us back again to Ireland Engineering). The usual input, ideas and opinionated posts are welcome.
