Okay, their cat-back M3 exhaust sounds like the real deal and the price of $455 is very reasonable. However, in the description it says it also fits 325/328 models. If I click on their exhaust for the 325/328 models it says price special $330. Am I missing something?? If I can get 7 to 10HP gain for $330 I'm buying one tomorrow! Now really complaining about $455 either ;-)) Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA 2nd Place BSP - PA State Championship 2004

Now really > complaining about $455 either ;-)) Yeah, I had something of the same reaction myself. We all know you can put an M3 exhaust on a 325/328 because people do it all the time. What I think is the case is that the M3 uses larger diameter pipes, so while either of Ireland's two systems would fit on either car, of course it would make no sense to put the more restrictive 325/328 unit on the M3. As for the price difference, well, that damn "M" always costs... Maybe someone who knows their way around exhausts better than I do can confirm or refute this theory? While the head is off, I am toying with the idea of dropping some > Schrick cams in. I didn't have to remove the cams from the head when I replaced my head gasket FWIW, although others have reported that they had to. -- If you have the right tool (a sort of special long Torx socket you can get on eBay) you can remove the head bolts without removing the cams from the head. Then, after undoing the VANOS and cam sprockets (and intake and exhaust, etc.) you can pull the whole head off as one unit, cams and all. As I posted at length earlier this week, I chose to pull the cams (even though I have that special tool) because being the klutz that I am, I didn't want to bend any valves when I pulled the head off and put it back on while doing a head gasket replacement. But if you don't pull the cams, the whole job will be much faster ... Just keep in mind that a few valves will be open if the cams are installed, and act accordingly. --Andrew -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

A regular Torx socket from Sears with a long extension works just fine too. No "special" tools were required on mine. -- Jamie Howton 2000 M5 1995 M3 Hampshire, IL

KLBurgess -------------------- 10 -------------------- Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2005 11:04:33 -0500 From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> Subject: Cat-Back Exhaust Options I've been thinking about exhaust options to replace my heavy stock system. Louder is OK within reasonable limits, but no droning allowed and no alienating the neighbours or setting off car alarms in parking garages. I still want to be able to hear my own radio. Obviously freeing up the exhaust for some extra power would be a Good Thing. Has anybody seen/heard/bought/tried the Ireland Engineering cat-back exhaust? See <http://tinyurl.com/9ahxw> At $455 for an all stainless system it seems pretty reasonable. I'm not all that thrilled by the dual muffler concept, which would seem to be inherently heavier for a given enclosed volume, as well as more expensive to build. The UUC System-U has a reputation for being very loud, and the new UUC RSC36 is absurdly expensive at $899. I know it's not normally very visible, but I find the ActiveAutowerke hex section folded metal design really goofy and butt ugly. I can't see paying more than $650 for a replacement cat-back system, and less would certainly be better (which brings us back again to Ireland Engineering). The usual input, ideas and opinionated posts are welcome. Neil - Fort Wayne, IN

We also sell the Conforti kits if you wanted to go further. The Schricks retail for $1255/set but for E36 M3 digesters they're $1125 shipped. Good luck with the repair!
