Well, I've had the same shock but not ext-adj on the M3 for a couple of years, replacing the worn out OE shocks. Set to ~1/2 turn from full-soft, paired with stock springs. Seems fine. However, the rears have started to leak, and since I'm not the original owner of these (Hi Jonathan! :-)), I'm replacing them with the ext-adj ones sourced from Ground Control. They'll get on the car eventually. Date: Wed, 15 Jun 2005 15:56:23 -0400 From: loweseaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Tire Question Tom, I have 255/40-17 Toyo RA1 tires on BMW OE 8.5"x17 forged rims (41 mm offset) front and rear. No spacers either axle. I have aggressively rolled the rear fenders - I used a Dremel to grind out the rubber filler in the fender lip before I rolled them. I haven't done anything to the front fenders and I use stock struts (well, Bilstein but they are identical dimension to stock). I also had to max out the negative camber on both axles. The rear stock lower arm has some adjustment and I have K-MAC adjustable camber plates up front. I really can't imagine any tire wider than 255 unless you cut the fenders off and redo with fender flares and you would have to use widely different offsets on the rims, i.e., 30 mm front and 50 mm rear. You would either need different rims for front and rear or 50 mm offset and use a 20 mm spacer on the front. Specifically I got the Kosei K1 racing wheels in a 17x8.5 and am interested in confirmation of larger size tires on this wheel. Please be specific on the brand of tire as well - mainly interested in track rubber. Thanks, Tom Tice '98 M3/4 '93 325iS with no shoes '98 328iC '02 325iT/5 '02 X5

I guess it certainly helps when the top of the Elise doesn't even come up to the bottom of the window opening on some cars and most all SUVs. =) > Is your M lowered Chester, (M3 content)? Maybe its something else :) My M3 has always been more or less stock looking. I mean, at one point, I had the Movit brakes and now the door handles don't have the keyhole and are painted and the windshield jet nozzles are painted body color.... But it is by no means bling bling ;) That's why I only went to hot import night once with Wayne and Stephen...and boy were they the oldest dudes around! ;) But, I will be putting on the TCKline racing suspension on this weekend so maybe I can slam it! And if anything else breaks on the car, it will surely be closer to the ground after I flatten it at the dump! Chester

Regardless, > Koni's have a lifetime warranty. Let me answer both issues in one email. Bob, I know my shocks are leaking because the exteriors of both are covered in oil (I mean, how else would I know?). There are no other leaks from any other area under the car. I also had my suspension expert inspect them. Patrick, yes, Koni's have a lifetime warranty...to the ORIGINAL RETAIL PURCHASER: From the Koni website (snipped): KONI BV warrants all new KONI shock absorbers to the original retail purchaser against defects in material and workmanship... Since I am not the original purchaser, my shocks are no longer warrantied (and yes, I probably could have sent them back to the original purchaser and had *him* get them repaired/replaced under warranty, but to me that sounds like a HUGE PITA. I don't need any more PITA projects right now.) Hope that covers everything. Sorry if that was too grumpy of a response, I am in fact grumpy today (yes, moreso than normal, shaddup :-)). Jim Bassett

I fabricated a new bracket from similar gauge steel that extended the length but was otherwise similar to the OE bracket and used the last hole. Worked like a charm and was more than robust enough. Anyone could do something similar with a hacksaw/dremel and a vice along with a drill. I could take some pics this weekend. I have the orange top (right before they discontinued it and went with the red top 34R - the orange top was the same as the red top but with reversed posts which is now what the red top 34R is). > I went with yellow tops for whatever reason Because your weird (and must like heavier batteries since the yellow weigh more than the red). Either that, or you needed the deep cycle for your blinging radio/amps/subs... ;-) Later, Rich

I will have a Ground Control coilover - would that eliminate the need for the spacer? Thanks, Tom > I run 255/40-17 RA-1s on my Kosei K1 17x8.5", 40mm offset.
