#5. Reach a milestone - from Man Chun Lee

Date: Wed, 22 Jun 2005 22:26:59 -0400 From: "Man Chun Lee" <arionatof@comcast.net> Subject: Reach a milestone Folks, After 3 years, 2 months, one big accident, and 66K miles later, my car finally reach the 100K mark. http://home.comcast.net/~arionatof/M3_100K.JPG It is not a race car or a garage queen, but a daily driver for an ordinary working stiff. Nevertheless, it is every bit the dream car as the day I bought it and it never fails to bring me a silly grin when I put my right foot down in my favorite commute route :) And like someone from the list once said, it is still worth a second look after a clean scrub. http://home.comcast.net/~arionatof/M3_100K_2.JPG Thank you all for all the advices and discussion provided in this list. It is truly a special community and it makes owning this amazing vehicle ever more special. Hope the car's next 100K will be as enjoyable as the last :) -Johnny 98 M3/4, crossed 100K on 6/15/2005 @ approx. 9:38 PM.

Date: Thu, 23 Jun 2005 09:52:26 -0400 From: Craig Perrin <cperrin@tampabay.rr.com> Subject: Re: Value on Stock Fuel Injectors There's resale value in the 21.5 lb. 96+ M3 fuel injectors to someone who wants to replace a set of 17 lb. 95 M3 injectors. AA in Miami used 96+ injectors, with a custom-tuned chip, to rectify my detonation problems with 24 lb. injectors and "matching" Turner chip (which I had no trouble selling). I paid about $150 for a used set of 96+ injectors. They're probably plentiful on the market, though, since M3 owners usually upgrade to the 24 lb. injectors. Don't know about use of the 21.5 lb. injectors in non-M3 cars. #8. Floating rotor chirp - from Craig Perrin
Top
Date: Thu, 23 Jun 2005 10:08:28 -0400 From: Craig Perrin <cperrin@tampabay.rr.com> Subject: Floating rotor chirp The independent shop that installed my "floating" rotors tells me a constant chirping is due to the right rotor being not quite perpendicular to the pads. This has gone on now for 4K miles--and it's definitely annoying with the windows down. Anti-squeal compound did not help. Is this a safety or wear issue, with the pad essentially dragging on the rotor whenever the car is in motion? Should I insist on a new set of front rotors? Thanks for any advice or perspective... The pads aren't perpendicular to the rotor? Why? Is the caliper cocked? What kind of chirping are you talking about? A squeal that's always persistent? What kind of pads are you running? Which floating rotors? The BMW ones? I too recently passed the 100k milestone a few weeks back as I was serendipitously rolling into Spartanburg for the BMW Performance school! Made that milestone all the more memorable indeed, not to mention having the greatest day of my life (first driving school ever, now hooked on getting into auto-xing/tracking, with 3 DE weekends on the horizon)! And I too want to thank everyone on the list as well, been super helpful and my car is running strong as ever (especially after I replaced my tranny cross member, upgraded to TMEs, and new flex disc/center support bearing) and look forward to the next 100k+ miles at which time I would love to have a full blown race car! ted On 6/23/05, Jim Bassett <jim@jimbassett.com> wrote: > On Wed, June 22, 2005 7:36 pm, Man Chun Lee said: > > After 3 years, 2 months, one big accident, and 66K miles later, my car > > finally reach the 100K mark. > > > > http://home.comcast.net/~arionatof/M3_100K.JPG > > <Homer Simpson> > > Woohoo!! > > </Homer Simpson>
