Steve, if you are to replace your muffler, I highly recommend you check out the AA Gen III exhaust <http://www.activeautowerke.com/exhaust/e36exhaust.cfm> I recently got in on a group by and purchased this muffler for $550 shipped and it's great. After I put it on I thought I screwed it up because I barely noticed the difference! But then when I hit WOT under load I heard it and it sounded beautiful... like a real sporty car should sound, deep and rumbly, but not annoying. Then hit cruising speed around 70mph and it's only a few dB higher, if any, than stock. Around town, shifting in the 2-3k rpm range it's barely noticable. I've given many a people rides in my car and none have ever commented on the sound in the car... only people that have noticed are the ones I'll take out on a drive and explicitly tell to listen. I'd recommend finding someone locally and giving it a hear, you won't be disappointed! ted ps - tunnels are the best part of this exhaust, esp if you like to down shift :-)

#3. Electric Seat ? - from tetice@triad.rr.com

Date: Tue, 28 Jun 2005 16:10:36 -0400 From: tetice@triad.rr.com Subject: Electric Seat ? Can anyone shed some light on the typical failures (and corrective action) for the electric seat controls. I'm headed for a weekend at the track and my seat recline function has become directional. It reclines but will not return. All other controls are fully functional in both directions. I don't really need it to actually work just to be able to return it to a more upright position. I've bumped it back a couple of times in discovering that it no longer works so it's reclined too far for track use. A manual way to get it back upright would be fine for now as well - it will be replaced by a race set in short order anyway. TIA, Tom Tice '98 M3/4 '93 325iS '98 328iC '02 325iT/5 '02 X5

Don, I'm not trying to dis your car - and besides, I'm probably not telling you anything you haven't already figured out! - but after driving the M3C when it first came out I felt that it was the most disappointing BMW I'd ever tried. The fairly stiff M3 suspension was at constant war with the decidedly not stiff chassis, with the results you've observed. If it were my car I'd be looking for E36 328 sport package springs and shocks, or at this point in time aftermarket shocks calibrated for that application plus somebody's take-off stock sport package springs. Backing off on the shocks without also fitting softer springs is likely to make the car bouncy, and you need softer springs and more travel anyway. Then, in order to restore some of the handling I'd consider aftermarket swaybars, since these don't much affect ride. You'd also need to determine whether the replacement shocks have the swaybar link mounting tab, since non-M cars attach it to the control arm rather than the shock body. I don't see any reason to replace your strut hats. Unless damaged in an accident they tend to be very long very long lasting. Check for cracked rubber and for smooth turning with no checks in the bearing motion. I have no opinion on the Monroe shocks. Recommendations? Yep, go with the UUC RSC36: http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/RSC36/ Corsa designed and engineered, thank goodness someone finally got Corsa to do some exhaust systems for our BMWs. A buddy of mine has one on his '97 E36 M3, absolutely loves it. No droning or resonance at all, unlike most all aftermarket systems I have experienced. Another friend just installed one on his '94 325is, he loves it as well and can't wait to get back to the track. Regards, Rich
