Your use of Turner's templates is simply wrong. Their R&D in figuring out what shape, and where to install those pieces, is what makes their kit of value. I think it's unfortunate that you do understand the concept of intellectual property. Perhaps I should untension the mounts a bit, as right now there definitely seems to be some additional vibration carried through the car. I knew this was to be expected. I have taken the car on a couple of long trips since putting the mount in, and at highway speeds it doesn't seem to be much different. Of course I don't have the flywheel chatter, and still run a stock exhaust. So you may not notice anything :) Regards, Stan Shaw Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net Phone: (413) 599-0399 Fax: (413) 599-0421 Excell.Net Owner/Operator http://www.Excell.Net/ 928 Owners Club President http://www.928OC.org/ 928Racing.net Team Member http://www.928Racing.net/ "Liberty once lost is lost forever." - John Adams

"I used my eyes to see how Turner's pieces were shaped, used construction paper to fit my own pieces into an oil pan that fit into the same spots as Turner's pieces, and used those templates that i made to cut the pieces out of aluminum sheet that i had laying around in my garage." I dont' see what the fuss is about frankly. And yes I do understand IP...but there haven't been any IP violations here. I was very careful following the torque specs (had to just hand estimate for a few of the bolts) and have no noticed no additional vibration at all, even with the red "racing" mounts. If you are careful with installation I don't see why you'd see much, if any vibration. Shifting is *much* crisper now too! ted

I am a little afraid to ask :-) Looking at the design, I would expect these to be a pretty commonly replaced item, so hopefully they aren't outrageous ... hopefully :-)

Some may think this is a bad thing but I thought it made it feel more like a race car so I kept it in. I have put the heavier duty bushings from different people in with the 6 speed and in my E46M3 and those are nothing like the JTD brace in terms of noise and vibration produced. -Wayne -----Original Message----- From: twisty M3 [mailto:twistym3@hotmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2005 6:43 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] JTD Tranny Mount Date: Tue, 19 Jul 2005 15:35:43 -0700 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: JTD Tranny Mount Thinking of installing this this weekend and curious to hear what experience others have had with it. Scott, I run 0 toe up front (with -2.75 camber if that matters) and 1/16" toe in and -1.8 camber at the rear. I would NOT fiddle with the toe/camber changes for the rear. Just stick to the above settings and you should be fine. Infact have the alignment guy set it up to factory specs (maxed out) if you are not cranking up the camber up front. Seems to work just fine for the street and the track. I burn through the front tires (on the streets) FAST but can get 15+ days out of my track rubber. Hope this helps. Ahmad I am guessing that I want zero toe at the front, or maybe just slight toe out to improve turn-in. My question for the rear is how much does the toe change over the full range of the camber adjustment for a car with stock suspension (Koni yellows, but otherwise stock)? If I set it for zero toe at mininum camber on the street, how much toe-in will I get at maximum camber? Is it enough?

I am an avid do-it-myselfer. Given the opportunity, I will spend ungodly amounts of time making things that would be much easier and more efficient to buy. However, this is my entertainment, and I get a lot of satisfaction from making something myself. A couple examples: http://www.thenobot.org/stories/?i=112 http://www.thenobot.org/stories/?i=111 The core question here is: If something is available for purchase, is it unethical to make a similar product for yourself? In my opinion, the answer is "no". I applaud Chuck's ingenuity and willingness to share his findings with the world. This is in line with the good Open Source spirit that the internet has brought to so many. I don't want to discount Turner's R&D expenditure though. Of course, someone has to take the time to figure stuff out. But if the end result is significantly cheaper not terribly difficult to make one's self, that's not a very marketable product. Maybe they could sell plans to their kit at a reasonable price and recoup some of the DIY-er losses. -zs ----- Original Message ---- From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Wed Jul 20 09:32:00 2005 Subject: [E36M3] RE: Oil sump baffle kits...was...Engine mounts Date: Wed, 20 Jul 2005 09:25:51 -0700 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> Subject: RE: Oil sump baffle kits...was...Engine mounts My most sincere apologies to all that I exposed to this debate, mostly Chuck, Mark, and Turner Motorsports.
