#1.fog light bracket - from Rob Verenna

Date: Wed, 20 Jul 2005 22:19:32 -0400 From: Rob Verenna <rob@willraceforbeer.com> Subject: <fs> fog light bracket All this talk of fog lights reminded me I've got a brand new, never used, fog light bracket for a '95 M3 right here that I have no need for (car has been gone for over a year, race car doesn't have fog lights)... p/n 510.01.000.03 on the sticker, p/n 518.01.262.30 in the plastic of the frame itself. I think it's for the left (driver's) side? $10 to your door anywhere in the lower 48. - rob

Interestingly, I didn't really see this as a heated discussion but as a useful and necessary exercise. This isn't reverse engineering. Had one never seen Turner's baffles, their design/shape/location and use of E30 M3 rubber gates, I hardly believe one would design them exactly the same way, same number, same location in the pan, know about the existence of the E30 M3 rubber gates and utilizing them in exactly the same manner. Also Kent, as an engineer, you would think you would know that there are 1,000s of items that are unique but never patented, the cost of obtaining and defending a patent in many cases isn't financially viable (and certainly the case with designing baffles for this particular BMW oil pan for the limited number of people that would purchase them...if they did, the baffles would cost many times what they are currently priced). Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 09:21:42 -0400 From: "Tom Melton" <Tom.Melton@emoryhealthcare.org> Subject: RE: Oil sump baffle kits Maybe Turner should have the pics modified so the rubber flow gates are on the wrong side in the pics, so if anyone "copied" their product without giving it some thought, there would be consequences... :) And then, some lawyer would get involved and a lawsuit would unfold because the pics were wrong and caused a damaged engine. Cool! (Note: for those that are humor constrained - the above is a joke, as most of this thread has been) -Tom

Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 09:48:36 -0500 From: "Andrew Joseph" <ajoseph1981@earthlink.net> Subject: No wonder there's 20 lawyers for every case... So all of you who espouse throwing money at a problem, just because somebody else got there first, have never, and I mean NEVER, looked at something that someone else did and thought, "I can do that with the X or Y that is laying around my house/garage?" To those who can HONESTLY say no to the above, then criticize away. For the rest of you, put on your big girl panties and deal with it. Most of this carping sounds like jealousy because you don't have the resources/energy/time/whatever to do it yourself. Good for you Chuck! I don't think Turner is going out of business because of your endeavor. If they come after you, I will kick in a few bucks to your defense fund. :^) Maybe we can share lawyers, since I experimented with some small pipe fittings to put an oil temp and pressure sender on the filter housing block after seeing JTD put both there...Darn, now I'm going to get lectured at, too! Gawd, move along and get back to your lives!
