See web page for a picture of the valve. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CD93&mospid=47504&btnr=64_ 0126&hg=64&fg=18 The valve is located in the engine compartment, below the master cylinder, next to the firewall. There are three hoses connected to it. One is the hot coolant inlet and the other two goes to the left and right heater core. If the valve to the heater core is stuck open then you will get hot air all the time. You can check the heater core temperature by putting the HVAC unit into a test mode. See web page for instructions. http://wiki.bosapt.com/index.php?title=HVAC_Test_System&redirect=no I believe the valves are normal open. Once you start the car and the HVAC is off or heat is not call for the system will close the valve to the heater core. The temperature of the heater core should remain at ambient. If the valve is stuck open than you will see the heater core temperature goes up as the engine coolant temperature goes up. You should be able to see if one or both valves are stuck by the heater core temperatures. The valve (P/N 64 11 8 375 792) is about $130. It can be replace from above by removing all the intake plumbing and disconnect a few wire harnesses and some hoses (it's been a while since I replaced mine). Drain coolant, disconnect the three hose clamps and un-snap the valve from the mounting bracket. Reverse to install. #2. Data at schools! - from James Clay

Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 15:34:26 -0400 From: "James Clay" <james@bimmerworld.com> Subject: Data at schools! There was a discussion on this earlier when the Traqmate came out. I am a huge fan of data as a way to improve driving skills. It is easy to see that someone is faster than you, but that is typically equated to having better equipment or cheating (for the racers). Data actually lets you see why - that someone is getting on the gas earlier, carrying more corner speed, etc. Anyway, data is approved in most schools now which I see as a huge advancement. It is considered a training tool, not a timing tool. No transponder is used with a Traqmate system and you can configure it for no timing display. Please contact me if you want more info on using data or how it all works. I am selling these obviously, but so many people put effort the wrong direction with less than optimum results - I think this is an incredibly effective solution for about the price of a set of tires (that will disappear in roughly 4 weekends). Build the foundation, not the equipment. #4. No wonder there's 20 lawyers for every case... - from Peter

Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 16:01:06 -0500 From: Peter <JPWheelr@dakarm3.com> Subject: No wonder there's 20 lawyers for every case... Andrew - You just love stealing though. And buying from thieves to save a buck. From what I recall, you used the small pipe fitting to see if the JT- Designs idea was good, the readings were good, so you went and bought it anyway. - not like you were advertising it could be done, what it took to do it, and freely disseminating that material... An incident of indirect thievery you encountered though - I remember that big brake kit that was a clear copy of the Movit kit (I don't want to name names... but this was a real, from a business kit), that obviously was done by drawing it from pictures because after saving $500 you had to re cobble that cobbled crap a few times; I couldn't help but laugh the day your re-re-re-machined brackets finally surpassed the price of a full movit kit front and rear; just glad I was there to watch you grind your control arms to make the kit fit - because they hit the backs of the rotors. And the "Oh, that's just the way it is" explanation you got from the manufacturer... By that point you had designed your own, based loosely on the shoddy kit, which was based approximately on the real kit. Well who is now guilty of stealing the intellectual property? And after all that, what was so intellectual about it? Inherent Karma-like Properties of theft Maybe we could get together and start our own ebay store. "Based loosely upon products like..." This thread is great. "Baffling" Many Rosie Odonnel-esque qualities. Big, annoying, won't go away. Peter Oh and the "freedom of open source" comment a few emails back... That isn't how it works. Had it been done with the intent of showing HOW baffling works, and what is really involved in the R&D rather than how to draw approximations from a picture, that would be "open source." I know how to make good baffling for an oil pan, and this is how and why - to teach you. And don't think I'm preachy, I live off of open source, but I am also one of those people who quickly and frequently click on the "Paypal Donate" buttons on any of those sites to support the people and sites that make that type of thought work. -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 09:48:36 -0500 From: "Andrew Joseph" <ajoseph1981@earthlink.net> Subject: No wonder there's 20 lawyers for every case... So all of you who espouse throwing money at a problem, just because somebody else got there first, have never, and I mean NEVER, looked at something that someone else did and thought, "I can do that with the X or Y that is laying around my house/garage?" To those who can HONESTLY say no to the above, then criticize away. For the rest of you, put on your big girl panties and deal with it. Most of this carping sounds like jealousy because you don't have the resources/energy/time/whatever to do it yourself. Good for you Chuck! I don't think Turner is going out of business because of your endeavor. If they come after you, I will kick in a few bucks to your defense fund. :^) Maybe we can share lawyers, since I experimented with some small pipe fittings to put an oil temp and pressure sender on the filter housing block after seeing JTD put both there...Darn, now I'm going to get lectured at, too! Gawd, move along and get back to your lives!

Hey all, I need a 1/2 inch impact wrench to do some work on my race bike motor. Anyone ever use an electric model? Are they worth the cost? With my needs, I can't really justify an air compressor so the electric models might be worth looking into. It's either that, or hoist the motor into the back of my truck and a six pack of Pale Ale and head over to my pals shop.... FWIW, the clutch hub nut is on with 130 ft lbs of torque and the flywheel is about the same, so a 1/2 inch should do the trick. Ciao, Mike

Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 18:20:50 -0400 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: Cheap Tow Vehicle Suggestions... Dear Group, I am looking to buy a tow vehicle. The key here is that I want to spend as little as possible. I was looking at many of the SUV's (1995-1998), and was very surprised at the low towing capacity of most of these vehicles. For example, the Dodge Durango. It has a 5.2L V8, built on a true truck frame, and from the Edmunds site can only tow 3200lbs. I am currently looking at 1995-1998 Ford F-250's. Initially I will probably buy a used open trailer, but I do intend on moving up to an enclosed version. A friend suggested that I want at least 9000lbs in towing capacity. Any ideas, or suggestions on other vehicles that I should be considering? If anyone has a lead on a vehicle, please contact me privately. Thanks for the input! Mo
