I had one very bad experience with a Purlolator filter on an M50 engine ('92 525i).. it was made in a 3rd world country, and it actually didn't fit correctly. This wasn't obvious until I went to remove it, and found it had been doing no filtering whatsoever. For the price - I'll stick with BMW filters. #5. Oil filters - from kwill69058@comcast.net
Top
Date: Mon, 01 Aug 2005 20:51:35 +0000 From: kwill69058@comcast.net Subject: Oil filters Guys, I may be going down the strange path but when I was working for a Mitsubishi dealer in 1984 (How old am I ???) They had problems with customers putting aftermarket oil filters on. Fact is that the manual states "Use only geuine Mitsubishi Oil Filter". How many times have you read that in a manual? The aftermarket filters said to be a direct replacement for the Mitsu oil filter. Problem was that we received multiple cars in our shop in the following months due to oil starvation. Well, the aftermarket filter did not contain a certain check valve which caused the engine to lose oil pressure hence starving and killing the engine. This was not covered by the Mitsu warranty. I saw the looks on customers faces with brand new cars that now had to replace the engine. Very sad. Just sharing my concern. Seems there's been some bad luck with Purolator and I found a big oil filter analysis that pretty much said to not ever touch a FRAM. OE it is! Thanks. Jonathan

In my E30 M3, I used Amsoil filters. Amsoil does not make a replacement for the E36 which I why I only use the BMW filter. YMMV but the filters are cheap enough. If you have the BMWCCA discount, even cheaper. I did use the ITG spray when I had the Conforti setup and know have the gruppeM set up on my 04. K&N oil works fine. I've heard of successfully "cleaning" the MAF, however, it is difficult and they are very sensitive. Don't over oil the filter. Shel
