I thought it would be a pain to remove the bumper, but it's really easy. The first time, I receive help from a friend, but the last time I did it by myself without problems. If I remember correctly, the fan has to go in at an angle which might require the removal of the bumper, but I'm not positive. If you need a motor, I have my old one. I broke some of the fan blades and had to replace the whole unit. Old motor still works fine.

#4. New Unpleasant Tick: Lifter? - from Steve Klein

Date: Thu, 4 Aug 2005 16:03:36 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: New Unpleasant Tick: Lifter? They're all unpleasant, but I've noticed a new one. Right behind the throttle body, in the middle of the intake cam. It's only one tick repeating in about half a second and sounds very much like a cam lobe hitting a lifter. I've replaced all the lifters, about 10k/mi ago, and I'd be willing to entertain the notion of a collapsed lifter, but how can I check them? I'll pull it apart, and I've no problem getting them out, but how can I measure / test them for integrity? Measuring the span from top to the center riser seems out of the question, since the engine will have to cool and in that time, some will leak down under compression. Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks Steve

It was around $160 or so. Yes, it does have a long bolt that passes through the center, but as Chester said, if you busted out the center of the ball joint the tool would still work fine. So you may not have to drill. Also, the Bimmerworld tool is a bunch cheaper, but requires that you tap it out with a hammer. I have that tool, and used a 3 pound sledge, and mine still wouldn't budge, so I used the Technics tool. Now that I know how easy they came out with the Technics tool, I would be attempted to try the Bimmerworld tool again and just hit it harder. ;-) Chris ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patrick Goss - PA" <Patrick_Goss@GMACM.COM> To: <cteague@cox.net>; "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Thursday, August 04, 2005 5:18 AM Subject: RE: RE: UPDATE - RE: [E36M3] WTB RR lower control arm; need advice; cry for help and advice Thanks so much Chris, I was crossing my fingers it could be done on the car and am relieved to hear so. Guess you have to call to get a price, and if I understand how the tool works you pass that shaft thru the center hole of the ball joint. If so I'll still be drilling out the broken bolt unfortunately :( Thanks, Patrick

Or...just hit harder ;) Chester --- Chris Teague <cteague@cox.net> wrote: > Also, the Bimmerworld tool is a bunch cheaper, but requires that you tap it > out with a hammer. > I have that tool, and used a 3 pound sledge, and mine still wouldn't budge, > so I used the Technics tool. > Now that I know how easy they came out with the Technics tool, I would be > attempted to try the Bimmerworld tool again and just hit it harder. ;-)

#10. Stupid Tire Shop used my Diff as a Jack Point - from Kevin D. McLeaster

Date: Thu, 04 Aug 2005 22:27:33 -0500 From: "Kevin D. McLeaster" <kmcleaster@insightbb.com> Subject: Stupid Tire Shop used my Diff as a Jack Point I dropped off a wheel at a local tire shop to get a nail hole patched yesterday. When I went to pick it up they weren't busy and offered to put it back on the car. When I saw the entire rear of the car go up in the air, I was worried that they were lifting from the diff. because I saw them doing it to a truck the previous evening. I ran out to check and sure enough, thats what they were doing. There doesn't appear to be any damage, but I had the shop manager indicate what they did and sign my receipt for the tire repair. How likely is it that they screwed up my car? Thanks, Kevin McLeaster '95 M3 100,000 mi.
