I do this regularly with the race car. It's fine. Don't worry about it. - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar

The cover that you see from the rear of the car), you should be ok.. From what I understand it is fine to lift the car from there. The problem is when the head of the jack is used on the back side of the diff, It will bend the cover.. McLeaster" <kmcleaster@insightbb.com> Subject: Stupid Tire Shop used my Diff as a Jack Point I dropped off a wheel at a local tire shop to get a nail hole patched yesterday. When I went to pick it up they weren't busy and offered to put it back on the car. When I saw the entire rear of the car go up in the air, I was worried that they were lifting from the diff. because I saw them doing it to a truck the previous evening. I ran out to check and sure enough, thats what they were doing. There doesn't appear to be any damage, but I had the shop manager indicate what they did and sign my receipt for the tire repair. How likely is it that they screwed up my car? Thanks, Kevin McLeaster '95 M3 100,000 mi.

Highly unlikely, I believe the diff case is an acceptable location to jack up an E36 M3 (contrary to what some might say). Regards, Rich

Like others have said, just keep the jack forward of the differential cover. The diff case is strong as hell. Prolly stronger than the frame rails we all use to jack our cars up on. Dave 98 M3/4
