I'm not trying to shoot down BS's offer, but if it were me looking for a tow vehicle for my M3 (M3 content)... I would recommend a Powerstroke Diesel (hey it's a German engine of sorts, right?). The Diesel will buy you more torque and better fuel mileage while towing. Plus if you use a SuperChip or Hypertech to modify the fuel curve when you are NOT towing (Do not use the power program for towing, I've read bad things), you can improve your daily driving mileage. Plus the F250's are very nice these days bordering on luxury cars. I was notably impressed when I got a ride in one a few weeks ago. I was impressed with the build quality, the creature comforts, and the POWER on tap adjustable with the right foot. Scary. I was not impressed with the cost of maintenance though. Fortunately it is not required often. #3. think I need a new alternator... need some help! - from Theodore Serbinski

Date: Mon, 8 Aug 2005 21:47:15 -0400 From: Theodore Serbinski <stanson@gmail.com> Subject: think I need a new alternator... need some help! Hey guys, Well I've had this ticking sound coming from my car during idle (usually after it warms up and I drive it a bit) and I've also noticed a fluctutation in power under acceleration. After a little bit of examining I pinpointed the sound coming exactly from the alternator, something isn't right with it! I brought this up a bit ago and a list member, Jamie, recommended that I might need to change my voltage regulator instead and save some money in the process. So my question is, when do our alternators tend to go bad? I have a 1997 with 103k miles. What about the voltage regulators? Should I just go ahead and replace both now and be done with it? If so, where to buy an alternator and should I avoid the rebuilt ones? I hear bumping up to the 140A alternators is a great upgrade instead of sticking with a stock amp rated one. Thoughts? Any help would be appreciated, especially reputable places for an alternator... seems a lot harder to find those than I thought! Thanks, ted

But in case it happens in the future I don't want to rip everything apart and start over. I believe the spherical ends on the GC adjustable LCAs are illegal in Prepared? Anyone who can shed some light onto this? "They made a clarification for this year (it's up on the bmw cca cr site) so for this year they would be legal but unless they get written into the rules for next year, then they'll likely be illegal for next year. Unless you run under ITS rules (for the non M crowd) in which case again they're legal (which is also a gray area since they're not quite legal in IT). I think, someone like Vince or Shane can further clarify." I can't say for JP because I've always run ITS rules regardless of the fact that my first two years of racing were in JP...but they are legal in ITS. Supposedly the rules state bushing material is free, so that allows urethane, delrin, or even a solid mount. What you're referring to is a spherical bearing, spherical bearings were not meant to be allowed. That's probably why this LCA clarification is OK for this year but probably won't be in the future. This is just my guess. Again if you're in a regular E36, then the spherical bearing control arm mount is legal if you're running under ITS rules. Carlos.

I have an OBD II scanner, round BMW code reader, and SRS reset tool but none of these seem to be able to diagnose my ABS light. Is there a way to read the ABS code without going to a BMW dealer? Part 2: Assuming the problem is one of the ABS parts such as the ABS pump or control module; I am parting out a 7/96 build date M3. Can I simply swap ABS parts from one M3 to another without any compatibilty problems? #10. Is this fuel starvation? - from mdriver13@aol.com

Date: Tue, 09 Aug 2005 10:31:18 -0400 From: mdriver13@aol.com Subject: Is this fuel starvation? Guys, The last few times I've been autox'ing, I have noticed a pronounced "cut-out" going around mid to high speed lefthand turns. It only last for a second or two and then she's pulling strong again. It's a little annoying, I must be loosing a few tenth of a second every time this happens. I lost to a Vette by 0.015 seconds last Sunday, in which the cut-out happened twice on the course every time! I have been running my gas level about a gallon or two above a 1/4 tank...is this too low? Is this the driver side fuel pick-up problem? Never really noticed it until this year, but then again, all our courses have been much faster too. Any help, is greatly appreciated. TIA, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA #13 BSP
