My M3 was serviced there for a few years and I was happy with the work. He also works on club racer BMWs too. His number is 408-956-1662. You can get him via email at bsport@sbcglobal.net. I live in San Jose, California, and work in Cupertino. My ideal mechanic is the one that works for his customers all by himself, and has a very clean shop. I used to have one, but he's retired for a number of years.Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated!David _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!

Date: Mon, 15 Aug 2005 07:09:22 -0700 From: "Jay Hudson" <jwhud@budget.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Power Steering Hose Failure Raza- The hose that usually goes is the return line. It's the one connected to the metal "trombone". The hose breaks right at the connection because the factory hose is a little short and it gets continual flexing from motor movement. Especially for tracked cars. You can have the rubber hose replaced by places the make up or repair hydraulic hoses. It cost me about $10. Be sure to have them make it a little longer. You will also have to have the restrictor valve moved to the new hose. It's clamped into the hose somewhere in the middle. Fairly easy DIY. If you haven't already done it, replace the hose clamps on the bottom of the resevoir too. Date: Mon, 15 Aug 2005 09:22:41 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Re: Sunroof Problems Brian- Don't know if you've received a response on this, but mine does the same thing from time to time. I'm not sure what causes it, but I suspect a position switch either wearing out or not aligning properly. Solution: Remove the dome light cover above the rear view mirror and you'll see the sunroof motor and drive casing. In the center of the circular casing is a small hex recess the exact size of a an allen wrench in your trunk tool kit. Use the wrench to move the roof towards the closed position. After you've closed the roof about an inch, the motor will work properly, closing it the rest of the way. I was thrown off by it the first time it happened, but *lucky me* my headliner is starting to sag in a few spots so I'll be removing all of it and cleaning up what I can in the roof mechanism in the not so distant future. Hope this helps, Steve '95 Cosmos M

Replace everything (?) with the "cassette storage" (#65 14 9 433 034) > that John firestone recommended. I would say it was more like a suggestion given how few use cassettes these days, except perhaps those who listen to books on tape. But hang on, I was going to get someone some measurements but got distracted. [John now grabs a tape measure and walks to his garage.] [After a few minutes, John returns and reports.] I hope I can still read fractions off a non-metric rule. The BMW cassette holder rises a couple inches out off the middle console. It is trapezoidal and measures 2 3/8 x 9 inches at the top and 3 1/8 x 10 inches at the base. It just fills the area between the front and rear ashtrays or storage trays, by design, and is well placed for my front seat passengers who like to use it as an armrest. I can take and send some pictures if you like, if you'll drop me a line and excuse the fastners and other odd bits in the non-smoker storage trays. (I have got things apart to modify the rear lighting and locking while the weather's good.) -John '96 318is

I still haven't had a chance to get under the car, but I think it is the part listed as "intake manifold" according to the Real OEM ETK (part no. 32 41 113 8 419) also labeled 1 in the attached image. I've been reading that some people have been just outsourcing the proper hydraulic hose and cutting off the crimped metal and using standard worm gears to attached the new hose to the banjo fitting. What are you club racers and serious trackers using? Is the stock line usually more robust than my experience? Should I just replaced it with the stock piece again? Thanks again! Drive Safely, Raza

Any reason to go with one vs. the other in a street car that sees a ton of track miles? Thanks for any input, Jonathan L.

Each headlight housing has two covers and I'm missing the larger of the two on one of the housings. Does anyone know who might carry this or does anyone on here have one they don't need? Thanks, Steve
