But with a lift it certainly is a handy thing to have - you just have to be careful not to attempt to balance something on it that can't really be balanced. My friend has one and I keep wishing I had it when I need an extra hand under the car. I think it's now on the top my list of cool tools to get. Tom I just looked it up and found what we call the dead man under safety stand: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=41856 My garage is low so the lift only goes up 3-4' so I had to cut down my stand but it has proven to be very helpful in working on cars. Hope this helps, -Wayne

The M-Z3 coupe diff. cover helps too. http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/new346-21.jpg http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/new346-25.jpg http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/new346-26.jpg When I replace my stock S54 engine with an up to date one (8100 versus 7600 RPM), I plan on removing everything in front of it and bring it out forward along with the tranny. Don't know if this can be done, but I am told it can be with less damage on a Z3 versus removing the tranny and bringing it up. Some dealers using a lift bring it down for the same reason. Worse case, I'll hire CW if available:). PS. I have the E-46 M3 wheel on my coupe. I like the look (round air bag goes with the cluster and console gauges) and feel of the thicker wheel which is the same O/A diameter as my stock three spoke one. My car uses a dual stage air bag. I haven't looked into doing this yet for the E-36 single stage air bags, but it is on the list. This is not a cheap mod. The wheel (shown in my car) parts required retail for $1400.00 plus mod parts and machining. http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/e46m3wheel-4.jpg http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/e46m3wheel-5.jpg

Seems like a reasonable trade-off to R&R every 2 years for the smog check to get an extra 90hp and performance roughly equivalent to an E46 M3.... Now. How do I pretend I didn't see that?????? #6. Can you easily retrofit side airbags on a 95 M3? - from Hunt Hodgetts

I just purchased a wrecked 1999 M3 to use as a parts car. How difficult would it be to put the side airbags in my 95 M3? What I'm not sure about is the electronics and sensors...

#10. Shifting woes - 2nd plea for help - from Matthew Teel
Top
Date: Wed, 17 Aug 2005 09:01:42 -0800 From: "Matthew Teel" <mteel@beluga.com> Subject: Shifting woes - 2nd plea for help So... No one has any ideas as to what might be happening here? Previously I asked: I can really use some help here. I am having some sort of shifting problem that I am not sure what it might be. When I start the vehicle and begin driving, everything is normal. The first time that I go into fifth gear, normal again. But after that, the detent that you normally feel as you go into fifth gear disappears. In fact, the shift lever feels as though it is now being pulled to the right with a fair amount of force. It becomes quite difficult to find third gear. When I am back in the lower gears, the lever will all at once snap back to the correct position and all will be normal again. There does not appear to be a rhyme or reason to why it suddenly corrects. At first, I would experience this in cold weather only. It started at about 52K miles. I put in Redline synthetic, and the problem disappeared for awhile. Then it progressively began to reoccur until the point where it is right now (118K miles) and is my new modus operandi. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Matthew 98 M3/4
