Date: Sun, 21 Aug 2005 10:36:24 -0700 From: Steve Grigory <sgrigory@pacbell.net> Subject: FOR SALE: Schroth Rallye 4 Harness Set for E36 I have a set, driver and passenger, of red (with black lettering) Schroth Rallye 4 Harnesses. I bought them for the track events I was driving my 1995 M3 in. Soon after ordering them, I decided to stop participating in driver events. I never installed them and didn't open most of the packages. I have since sold my M3. These are specially sized for E36 3-Series BMW's, 1993 through 1999. This includes coupes, convertibles and sedans. These are great for either track events or autocrossing since they hold you firmly in place and do not require you to permanently scar, or modify, the interior of your car. They allow you to concentrate on your driving and not on trying to keep yourself from sliding around in your seat. It's much safer! For more info, go to: http://www.soloracer.com/rallye4.html I also purchased the 2" grips, which make it easier to adjust the belts when you strap yourself in, and the E36 seat bolt adapters. I paid just under $375 for everything. I am asking $225. It's all in the original boxes and packaging with the instructions. I'm located in San Jose.

Date: Mon, 22 Aug 2005 10:31:11 -0700 From: "marco" <m3driver@iname.com> Subject: no more heater - block off hose connections? I'm getting ready to install my frankenmotor and had a question for the group. I've "deleted" the heater core and was just planning on blocking off the ports in the block that fed the heater hoses. Specifically the one in the rear of the block and the one in the front. Someone I spoke with said not to do that but to just connect each port with a hose since if I block them off the car will overheat. any know for a fact if you can block off those ports? I'd rather not have more hoses than needed. thanks Marco

Well, given that the heater valve is closed when your heater is normally on, and therefore there's no flow into our out of those ports, I'd say they''re wrong. I have run a Alfa motor for about 10 years with the heater hoses blocked off (no core installed) and it's been fine. Of course the BMW motors may have some small amount of bypass always running through the hoses ... I dunno. The front block-off should be trivial -- just install a hex-head plug, 17mm head IIRC. The rear will be harder -- best thing to do would be to fabricate a simple block-off plate and uses the same gasket. I may have even seen such a plate (VAC, maybe) before for sale ... >I'm getting ready to install my frankenmotor and had a question for the >group. IIRC, the rear hose goes to a valve / junction on the firewall, which has another hose that eventually makes its way all the way to the expansion tank. That's a series of hoses around 1" in diameter. So I'm not sure what you would have to do to accommodate the expansion tank if you block off the hoses on the head. >The front block-off should be trivial -- just install a hex-head >plug, 17mm head IIRC. > >The rear will be harder -- best thing to do would be to fabricate a >simple block-off plate and uses the same gasket. I also asked about the temps for the 10w30 which they said they did not work for Marylands hotter days. I am thinking about the Redline Synth 10w40 for my 95 street driven M3. Any thoughts? -Keith. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ( If you can read this, thank a teacher, If you can read this in English, thank our Soldiers ! )
