Koni SA rear install question So, I'm attempting to replace the leaking non-ext-adj Koni SAs on the M3 with new ext-adj ones. I notice that the new ones are shorter: the tube is ~1/2 shorter and the ledge on the shaft where the bump stop rests is 2" shorter. I'm assuming that the new ones are then the same as the old ones, and this will significantly change the ride height (which I don't want)? Is it normal for the ext-adj ones to be different/shorter that the non-ext-adj ones, or did I get the wrong shocks? And, as I was typing this my local suspension expert (Tony at TC Designs), called me back and said the same thing ("Just put them in" :-)). So, I guess I'm putting them in :-) > Let me know if you'd like another set of hands to help with the install. Thanks for the offer Zack, I should be able to handle it; enjoy your BBQ. Koni SA rear install question Jim, I believe they've finally shortened the shock to increase performance in lower ride height apps. Anyway, the shock doesn't have anything to do with ride height. The only impact I can think of is now the back wheel won't droop down as far when jacking -might save a pump or so with the floor jack :) Rob Norwalk 93 325 JS 02 33O Jim Bassett wrote: > Date: Sat, 03 Sep 2005 13:00:26 -0700 > From: Jim Bassett <jim@jimbassett.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Help! I have the ext-adj koni's on my car, and yes the tube is shorter, and a little wider than the non-adj shocks. I had the ream the GC RSM's that I had to get them to fit. It will change your ride height, but I did not find it a big deal.. Hope this helps. Mo

The rear ride height is >determined by the springs. Right. Only effects, less droop and more shock travel. all good things... I think the shock shaft is beefier too. Since the are externally adjustable, I hope you are using a RSM that allows you to get to the top of the shock by removing from the wheel well like the GC units. That or cut a hole in the trunk carpet (what I did).
