They are weld studs, so your concern is well placed. Spray some penetrating oil on them and let it soak in before trying to remove the nuts. It's possible to tell which sensor is bad from some of the codes. Let me know what you get and I may be able to help. I had one of these speed sensors fail earlier this year in a manner that ended up draining the battery intermittantly. This was the most frustrating experience I have ever had with an automobile in my life. #4. '96 M3 Clutch Pedal Low Engagement - from Stan Shaw

Date: Wed, 7 Sep 2005 12:03:15 -0400 From: "Stan Shaw" <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: '96 M3 Clutch Pedal Low Engagement I am hoping that perhaps my clutch needs to be bled, as I have never done so when bleeding the brakes. If I understood the manual correctly, the clutch is self adjusting. If so, does a low pedal engagement point indicate a nearly worn out clutch? I remember a high engagement point would indicate a worn out clutch, but that was before self adjustment was an option. How much of a job is changing the clutch on a '96 M3? Special tools? Thanks! The E46M3 has one of those. I think a worn clutch disc is hinted with a high engagement point. Perhaps the throwout bearing is on its way out. We could change out your clutch for $350 :) I even have a BTG LTW setup sitting here awaiting installation ;) Regards, Chester --- Stan Shaw <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> wrote: > I am hoping that perhaps my clutch needs to be bled, as I have never done so > when bleeding the brakes. > > If I understood the manual correctly, the clutch is self adjusting. There's a Peake tool that will read ABS fault codes? :-) Otherwise, that's a good suggestion - have your favorite local BMW mechanic read the ABS computer fault codes for you, then you'll know what to fix (BTDT with the infamous ABS/ASC light issue). #8. Anyone run with no aux fan? - from Townsend, William

Date: Wed, 7 Sep 2005 14:46:00 -0400 From: "Townsend, William" <wtownsen@enterasys.com> Subject: Anyone run with no aux fan? Anyone ever run their M3 on the track without the engine driven fan and no aux fan? I don't have the engine driven fan and my aux fan died at the track. My temp gauge went to just below 3/4 at the Glen pulling up the s-es and main straight. Never did this when the aux fan was working. Does this sound odd? I would have thought that at speed there was plenty of air flow. On other parts of the track when behind slower traffic the gauge would climb also. Anyone have this happen? Could I be missing some shrouds or something? I have the JT under panel. I have put the euro M3 radiator in and since then, the temp gauge has never moved off 12:00 at any track, at any temp (80-90+ deg.). I used the heater on full to keep the temps down and was fine, but not for me. --Bill 96 M3 red coupe

I haven't had a problem in heats as high as 110 ambient. Did your aux fan seize or was it still freewheeling. If it seized maybe it was screwing up the airflow to the radiator. I have seen the vdo gauge move when I'm in dirty air, but not the stock gauge.
