The mold release compound was gone not long after you turned the corner of the shop you had install your tires (mold release wears off in the first few hundred feet or less). Regards, Rich

#6. Anyone run with no aux fan? - from Mo Karamat

Date: Thu, 08 Sep 2005 23:16:18 -0400 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: Anyone run with no aux fan? Bill, Hello. I have heard of several folks who have done the "fan delete". From what I remember they put a thermostat in that opens at a lower temp, and add water wetter. I have not heard about overheating with this set up.. (Even though from what I have read the power gains are supposed to be very small) Did you change the thermostat when you replaced the radiator? Perhaps it is sticking? Also what type of mixture did you use? Perhaps too much anti-freeze, and not enough water? Good luck! Mo 98 M3/4 -------------------- 8 -------------------- Date: Wed, 7 Sep 2005 14:46:00 -0400 From: "Townsend, William" <wtownsen@enterasys.com> Subject: Anyone run with no aux fan? Anyone ever run their M3 on the track without the engine driven fan and no aux fan? I don't have the engine driven fan and my aux fan died at the track. My temp gauge went to just below 3/4 at the Glen pulling up the s-es and main straight. Never did this when the aux fan was working. Does this sound odd? I would have thought that at speed there was plenty of air flow. On other parts of the track when behind slower traffic the gauge would climb also. Anyone have this happen? Could I be missing some shrouds or something? I have the JT under panel. I have put the euro M3 radiator in and since then, the temp gauge has never moved off 12:00 at any track, at any temp (80-90+ deg.). I used the heater on full to keep the temps down and was fine, but not for me. --Bill 96 M3 red coupe

From >what I remember they put a thermostat in that opens at a lower temp, and add >water wetter. I have not heard about overheating with this set up. This isn't the same as running w/o any fan as Bill mentioned. The aux fan seems to do a decent job of keeping the car cool while in traffic or at idle on the grid. I'd go fan-less if it was a race car that only needs to stay cool while idling on the grid, and then you have to keep a close eye on that water temp. Speaking of this "fan delete" thing, what's the point of the t-stat change? So it opens at a lower temp, what does that do to overall cooling? Once this or the other t-stat are fully open what does it matter? The lower temp aux fan switch seems to at least do something for the car at idle, it keeps the water temp down what 20 degrees cooler (Fahrenheit)? I just swapped in the Zionsville radiator, new water pump, and I removed all the anti-freeze. I'm only running water, Water Wetter, and an anti-rust additive. Of course I don't have a real water temp gauge so I have no idea if this even helps. :-/ That'll be the next project, real gauges. :-) -Carlos. 98 M3

It's some white junk that I always buy at Murray's here in the Detroit area. I think it's some Gunk product or something, nothing special. The only reason I add it is every time I drain the coolant out of one of my cars for the first time there's always corrosion in there, on the drain plug, visible on the inside of the t-stat housing, the water pump, etc. I add this stuff just out of paranoia. After I drain the anti-freeze I usually replace it bi-anually after that when the temps change or the car has to go from winter to track season so that's usually the end of the visible to me corrosion. -Carlos.

#10. Windshield Installer Recommendation in LA/OC? - from estorilphil@adelphia.net

Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2005 15:00:00 -0400 From: <estorilphil@adelphia.net> Subject: Windshield Installer Recommendation in LA/OC? Yesterday on my way home a rock/debris hurled towards my windshield and sure enough created a 6" long crack. Overnight this developed into a 10" long crack. Doh! So I'm thinking I'll probably take this opportunity to replace the windshield along with the pits and chips and stuff. Now, can anyone recommend good installers in my area? I work in Irvine so close by to this vicinity would be good. And what would I expect to pay as well as watch out for? TIA... Phil '99 M3/2 '96 Suburban
