Gosh, now I'm all paranoid about the windshield replacement, perhaps even more so than before. Because I'll likely need to get it done at work, I don't know if they'd be able to get it done right... :-S So I called All Star Glass in Irvine and got a quote and also inquired about the installation. They use PPG class and apparently can come out and get it done in about an hour. Is PPG okay? I have the coupe so is the PPG glass going to come with that "lip" on the edge for channeling rain at autobahn speed? And if they're claiming it'd be done under an hour, am I setting myself up for a poor installation because that's not enough time allocated for it? ---- Jeremy Conners <jeremy.conners@comcast.net> wrote: > Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2005 17:46:20 -0400 > From: "Jeremy Conners" <jeremy.conners@comcast.net> > Subject: RE: [E36M3] Windshield Installer Recommendation in LA/OC? > > I'm not going to make a recommendation for an installer, but I'll provide > some BTDT advice: > > My replacement had a different design seal. You're pretty unlucky with windshields Jim! Or have I been exceptionally lucky until now? This is actually the first windshield I've had to replace...

Certainly should be in the higher quality side. You should ask the installer about the specifics of the seal that is supplied. You can always order the factory seal and have the installer replace the provided seal. There have been many advances in adhesive technology over the years. There should be no problem with a short cure time. Do not slam your doors as the air pressure spike could potentially cause issues. In fact, I'd leave the windows slightly down for a day if possible. Also, do not do any high dynamic maneuvers with the car for a day or so. The windshield acts as an integral member of the complete body unit to provide higher torsional rigidity. -Jeremy 97 M3 // <SNIP> // Gosh, now I'm all paranoid about the windshield replacement, perhaps even // more so than before. I looked at the toothed hub as well as I could on each wheel as well and didn't see any problems. All wiring to all sensors looked perfect. I also pulled both ABS relays and polished the connectors as well as checked all of my fuses. Unfortunately, the ABS light is still on. Any suggestions on what I should check next, or do I need to pay the dealer to read the codes for me? Thank you, Kevin '95 M3

Other than that, they are exactly the same. Good luck in the search! Especially if insurance is paying for it, I'd ask a BMW dealer where they take their cars for windshield replacement to ensure that the place you're going to is familiar with your vehicle and they have OEM glass in stock. When I had the windshield on my Discovery replaced a couple months ago, I called the place that the dealer recommended and actually just dropped my vehicle off at the dealer since they go there and work on other Land Rovers every other day anyway. I knew that they worked in a covered area and the installer was familiar with heated windshields. The more comfortable you can make the installer (avoid having them come out to your place if weather is questionable), the better the result you're likely to get.
