I pulled the pump and I believe I got all the pieces. Before I put a new water pump and thermostat in should I back flush the engine or ??? I want to make certain all the plastic is out. Thanks, John

Not sure it's an issue on the M3 in terms of what part you get, but make sure you get the Motorsport seal (~$80), especially if you're tracking the car. We did a "regular" rear main seal on the 325is, and guess what, it started leaking too. Motorsport one's been dry as a bone over the last 4 track events <knock on wood>. The one on the M3 was done a couple of years ago, no track time since, but it's also still dry. Motorsport seal as well. I can dig out a p/n if you need it, but any competent parts person should be able to locate it :-) Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - soon to have like-new rear Koni SA's for sale <grumblegrumble> 1993 325is #44 JP

I bought one and have used it on a few cars for friends. Great for resetting those service lights too. #4. Front wheel shake under braking??? - from Kent L. Shephard

Hi, I'm getting the shakes under moderate to hard braking at 60MPH and above. Nothing when going slower. The suspension is good (less than a year old). I don't think the wheel bearings are completely shot because I don't get groaning under cornering. I do think the runout might be excessive and causing the problem though. THe car has 97K miles and I'm sure these are the bearings that came on the car. Also how bad a job to do the front bearings? Bear in mind that I can do a pretty good job with a wrench. Kent

I'm relatively new to the bay area, and don't have a shop that I can call my own yet. I'd like a recommendation on a great BMW shop that does great work and charges reasonable rates (haha). I'd like to have Ireland Engineering subframe mounts put in my M Coupe and have new tires put on the front, I figure I'll just have it all done at once. Thanks for any pointers. - reid

Ramon LeFrancois at Bavarian Motorsport in Milpitas. http://www.bavarianmotorsport.net/ GREAT guy, maintains my race car (along with TC Design in the same building, who built the car), and very active in the GGC BMW CCA. - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar

#7. GGC School at Infineon Raceway, Nov. 5-6 - from Mark Dadgar

Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2005 11:55:40 -0700 From: Mark Dadgar <mark@pdc-racing.net> Subject: GGC School at Infineon Raceway, Nov. 5-6 Golden Gate Chapter has just opened registration for our annual fall driving school at Infineon Raceway in beautiful Sonoma, CA. The cost is $499 for club members and $539 for non-members (includes a 1-year BMW CCA membership) and it will take place the weekend of November 5-6. If you have no previous high performance driving experience, a Car Control Clinic is required prior to the Infineon school. Conveniently, we have one of those scheduled for October 22. The CCC cost is $80 and includes lunch. More info for these events can be found at: http://www.ggcbmwcca.org If you've never been to a track school, I *highly* encourage it. The skills you learn there will serve you well on the street. Plus, it's just a TON of fun! All makes are allowed, but BMWs are given priority. However, it has been several years since this has been an issue, so don't hesitate to alert your friends. Most convertibles and targas are not allowed at the Infineon School (see the event docs for more info), but they are more than welcome at the Car Control Clinic. Don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions. See you there! - Mark Driving Events Coordinator, GGC BMW CCA ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar

No, the "stomp test" is only for CE lights AFAIK. > All of this is leading me towards buying a Peake tool. May not help, as the ABS has a separate computer which isn't accessable via the Peake tool (except for some basic errors, as someone corected me earlier). > are there hidden > ones > that I'll still need to pay the dealer to dig out? Sorry, but I think you're going to have to have the dealer/independent pull the codes. <rant> I can understand an independent needing to earn a living, etcetcetc, but to charge you a FULL hour to just read the codes is ridiculous IMNSHO. A half-hour charge I could accept, possibly, kind of like a "consultation fee". But, I guess I'm spoiled. Both of my local independents are also friends of mine and fellow racers. Heck, we spend more time BS-ing when I'm at their shops than the time it takes to read ANY code. I'm not saying you should expect to get the codes read for free, but to be charged an hour for something that literally takes less than 5 minutes is ridiculous. Again, IMNSHO, YMMV, yada^3. </rant> Jim Bassett - why am I ranting, it's Friday?!? :-)

Hi, About 30 minutes away in Castro Valley is a shop that specializes in tires and racing suspension. Roger Krause racing in Castro Valley does great work at reasonable rates. I've had them install full suspensions on both an E30 M3 and an E36 M3. For mechanic type work, not sure. I still need to find someone. Up till now, I've done all my own stuff on my E36. My E30 was a different story and my mechanic retired not too long after I sold the car. Hmmmm, maybe the E30 was keeping him in business. I will, without hestiation, drive the ~45 miles to have Ramon (and Tony @ TC Designs) work on either car. Just down there this AM as a matter of fact, picking up some parts. Cheers, Jim Bassett
