#1. Big Brakes... - from jeffrey Lin

Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2005 21:09:59 -0700 (PDT) From: jeffrey Lin <jeffreywlin@yahoo.com> Subject: Big Brakes... Carlos and James Clay have it totally right when it comes to matching piston sizes and hence brake torque to the master cylinder and the rear brake setup. On my E36 M3 race car, I installed 6pot APs, with 13" rotors. This is the KVR setup. It looks awesome, has all the awesome specs, but in practice it never worked right. WAY too much brake bias up front. With ABS off, it would flat spot front tires down to the cords. I finally fixed this by going to dual tilton master cylinders to get the proper bias. Pedal feel is incredible w/o the booster, althought i'd say the effort is too high for street use. If I were to do it all over again, I'd probably stay with stock brakes because if you lighten the car up they're pretty darn good and rotors are CHEAP. Yeah, the BBKs are better, but for the money stock is pretty darn good. Next step I'd do dual masters to get the "pedal feel" after that than a BBK. If I could not use dual masters because it was a street car or if my race class did not allow BBK, I'd probably go Stoptech. Hope that helps. Jeff

#3. Re: Replacing spark plugs, what about direct fire plug connectors? - from Theodore Serbinski

Date: Sat, 1 Oct 2005 11:51:05 -0400 From: Theodore Serbinski <stanson@gmail.com> Subject: Re: Replacing spark plugs, what about direct fire plug connectors? Well this morning I went at it and changed all of my spark plugs, along with each of the direct fire plug connectors. The plug connectors I got from BMP were: Bremi 13249A1.8 Germany, 1.8k Ohm Each plug connector I removed was measuring in the 1800 - 1900 Ohm range, except for one, which was registering somewhere around 2300-2400. I was actually having a problem with this cylinder as well (hence the spark plug change before changing the coils later since it was coming up as coil problem for this cylinder). Each of the direct plug connectors I put in was registering near 1900, except for one which was a bit higher, closer to 2100. For this one I opted to put in one of my older correctly measuring plugs. With a 105k miles on my car, seems like only one of the direct plug connectors was out of spec. Not too shabby, but now with all of them replaced (well minus that one I reused) I should be good for the next 100k miles :-) Not to mention, my cylinder problem should be fixed too! ted On 9/25/05, Don Eilenberger <deilenberger@yahoo.com> wrote: > At 04:34 PM 9/25/2005, you wrote: > >About to replace the spark plugs on my 1997 M3 with 105k miles. I've got no brake light on that side, and it's not the bulb, and it's getting power. Dealer says they're $200 +. Any good junkyard source for them? Dave Hogg IS #20 BTW, the VIR Oktoberfest races were a HOOT, despite a little carnage. Never been on that track before but I highly recommend it. Major "pucker factor"!

The piston sizes are chosen so that stock or better bias is retained, but you get the other benefits of better brakes. But if the pistons are too big, now there is too much front brake. I WOULD NEVER (again) use a Wilwood brake bias valve. This quality product put us on the sidelines for a 24 hour race once and then again in a WC race when the valve failed and system locked up. Tilton is good if you have to go this route..
