The fellow that I spoke with last time was Mark. He was very helpful, and they had the best prices of anyone that sells these tires. His # is 800-222-7360. There have been some recommendations on Nokian snow tires and I'm wondering where is a good place to get them. As far as I know neither Tirerack nor Discount Tire carry them. Thanks. I didn't want to run massive amounts of negative camber nor did I want to get 17x9 wheels all around. So I decided against going with the 255/40R17.. Would your friend be interested in a 255/40R17? #10. Perfect offset for 17x 8.5 wheel? - from Mdriver13@aol.com
Top
Date: Sat, 8 Oct 2005 12:36:29 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: Perfect offset for 17x 8.5 wheel? Group, I think some of this discussion of maximum wheel width for our cars could be avoided if we knew what offset works best. Granted since we're talking about going wide, I'd assume most people would roll their rear fenders for maximum clearance. So with that in mind, would an offset of 38mm be best? Would this work up front without spacers?? I think if I do the math, it sounds like you would need an et26 to clear the front struts (15mm spacer minus et41 standard M3 wheel). I have found (stumbled upon), that by not using spacers up front, the car handles so much better for autoxing. The rear end drift is so much more predictable and turn-in feels more precise too, IMHO. I think having the front and rear track about the same is the reason. Maybe the BMW engineers designed the car with a certain front/rear track in mind. Making the front track so much different front the rear is bound to create an imbalance. Time on my hands with all this east coast rain. Yea, right...one of my pre-cat sensors failed at 40K so I replaced just that one. The other is still working fine, but it's only been around 5,000 miles since. I'd just replace the one at this time and save the extra $100 for later. It's up to you. cheers, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA #13 BSP
