The nut would be blocked by the dust shield. You have 3 options in this case: 1] Bend the heat shield 2] Cut the heat shield 3] remove parking brake and pull heat shield out (my choice) Now the nut I put on is facing the back side of the ball joint which is wide open. Matt has taken some pictures. Hopefully he'll get to upload them soon after the track weekend. #3. My Suspension Upgrade Journey Part IV - Driving Impression - Street - from Alan Leung

This morning I adjusted all 4 Koni’s half-turn from full soft and off I went. First impression was that for how stiff the springs are the ride was firm but nowhere near harsh. One thing was that on rippled surface the car feels quite bouncy. It took a few bounces for the car to settle down. Is it supposed to be like that or how should I adjust the shocks to fix that? For sharp changes like expansion joints the suspension handled those well. The road was damp this morning from the rain last night so I haven’t got the chance to “fully” evaluate the handling but that’s what the track is for this weekend, isn’t it? Question: The adjustment pin on one of the front struts is so stiff it’d round out the Koni plastic knob. I needed a plier to turn it. Is it normal? These are the same pins that were sticking out of the box when I received them. Could it be damaged? Alan 95 M3 – alignment done!

I'm about to order some new control arms (Hi Chris!), and was just curious as to any drawbacks of running these on a heavily tracked street car. I've been running the offset factory '95 bushings, so was curious if these run in that same basic geometry. Sounds like they add some caster, so I'd assume so. Please send any and all feedback, Jonathan L.

I haven't used them but I've asked Mr. Siccardi about them before and they have the same geometry as the offset '95 ones that you're already using. He didn't say what they're made of (it's not delrin) so I assume some sort of polyurethane. He made them to clear the exhaust when doing an M50 conversion into an E30. Carlos.

Wait, if I point a flashlight in there I can still see the numbers. So it seems the LEDs are fine, but the light bulb that illuminates them is burned out. I've fixed the climate control unit, replaced a bulb in the OBC, installed a factory alarm, and hardwired a microwave leak detector to a power source near the sunroof controls. But somehow I haven't needed to get at the speedometer yet. Any tips? -- David Ripton dripton@ripton.net

Try stiffening things up to see if that keeps things under control, but try it slowly and methodically. There are about three full turns of adjustment on my front struts, I imagine their E36 kit will be similar. The car should feel planted -- not bouncy -- with the GC kit. About the stiff adjuster -- I'd call the guys at GC to talk about it. Mine are really stiff too, but not so stiff as to round out the adjuster knob. -zs ----- Original Message ---- From: Alan Leung <alanleung100@hotmail.com> To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Thu Oct 13 09:58:25 2005 Subject: [E36M3] My Suspension Upgrade Journey Part IV - Driving Impression - Street Date: Thu, 13 Oct 2005 11:55:04 -0500 From: "Alan Leung" <alanleung100@hotmail.com> Subject: My Suspension Upgrade Journey Part IV - Driving Impression - Street Part IV (street) Today is the first day I drive to work after getting my car back from my $400 alignment last night. Just wiggle it out slowly and keep the key in the ignition so you can turn the steering wheel to ease it out. Be sure to get the correct bulb. The odometer bulb is a different intensity vs. the standard cluster ones. Be sure also to check that your CEL bulb isn't burn out/missing, or any other important ones for that matter. -----Original Message----- From: David Ripton [mailto:dripton@ripton.net] Sent: Thursday, October 13, 2005 2:29 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Odometer light replacement Date: Thu, 13 Oct 2005 11:27:08 -0700 From: David Ripton <dripton@ripton.net> Subject: Odometer light replacement My 1998 M3/4's odometer and trip odometer are no longer visible. There may be a bulb coming in from the back of the cluster (there are for all of the other cluster functions), and they are like $1 each at the dealer. To remove the cluster, pull the airbag (torx T30?), then steering wheel (17mm?), then two phillips head near the top of the cluster. Push inward at the base of the cluster, and coax it out. Take precautions for the airbag, so it doesn't deploy on you. Good luck! I know I have a spare cluster here somewhere, but I just tried to look for it and don't know which bin it is in! I have another cluster coming in this weekend, and will take note to check out the layout on the rear.
