You did say you hit something going 60MPH and while I don't know what you hit, that's pretty fast and could easily do some serious damage if you hit something hard enough to rip the swaybar mount off the strut body. I think you are right in expecting to see more suspension damage with a bent frame though. Do you know the entire vehicle history? > Is straightening the frame > possible or necessary given that I drove it 200 miles > home and felt no problems? It is possible with the right equipment, it's only necessary if it is bent outside allowable tolerances, however I don't know what those are. If you don't trust the shop you took it to, take it somewhere else. I have had very good luck finding reputable body shops by calling the local dealer and asking them who they use. If you are going to track the car again, I'd make sure it's right before hand. It's just my $.02, but you don't realy want a suspension failure at the track. -- Jamie Howton 2000 M5 1995 M3 Hampshire, IL

Also if they tried to install the link and assumed that it should line up exactly without a little bit of wrangling; wrong. I don't really believe that the frame is bent (but it ain't my car). On my E30 I ripped the link eyelet on my strut housing. I had the repair doen and reinforced the other. No alignment problems. YMMV. The front was a little closer to the strut, but I didn't get any rubbing. In hindsight, it was a little crazy just for one day of autox in the m3 (on all season tires no less). But I had fun and got a last bit of seat time before things spin back up in March, so I'm happy :) -- Adam Lazur

#5. euro headlight connector pins - from Thomas Philip

Date: Mon, 31 Oct 2005 13:51:06 -0500 From: Thomas Philip <tphilip@omtay.org> Subject: euro headlight connector pins I'm trying to install a set of euro headlights on my E36. I want to use a factory-style connection at the headlight end of my custom wiring harness. I have the twist-lock connector 61 13 1 392 222 and I'm trying to find proper pins that lock into it and fit the light. I originally thought it might be 61 13 0 005 197, but my local dealer happened to have one in hand and it's way too small. Is the proper part number 61 13 1 382 194? Thanks for the help. tom

#7. speedo at Zero - from Brad Sunshine
Top
Date: Mon, 31 Oct 2005 15:22:47 -0800 (PST) From: Brad Sunshine <bsuns@yahoo.com> Subject: speedo at Zero Folks, Driving around at lunch I noticed the speedo reading zero! The tach is fine, the odometer is not incrementing, including trip odo. Also the OBC distance, speed etc are not changing. I assume a sensor has gone, but I am not getting a check engine light (yet, it has been probably less than 5 miles since I first noticed it). I won't have time to delve into it for at least a day, since my 4 yr old Lion and 3 yr old Jojo the Clown require some attention this evening, any suggestions? 97 M3/4 manual. Thanks, Brad Sunshine Thanks, Brad __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.yahoo.com

Brad, I'd suggest running a instrument cluster test to see if it is the instrument cluster itself. With the ignition off, press and hold the odometer reset button on the cluster, while simultaneously turning the ignition to the 3rd position. The cluster's lights will turn on and it will perform a test of the analog gauges. The needles should move from their "zero" positions through their full range. An easy way to see if the speed sensor is bad is by double checking the speed with the OBC (if you have the full function). While driving the car, in the LIMIT mode, press "SET/RES' and your current MPH should be displayed.. I think the instrument cluster and the OBC get the speed signal from the differential-mounted sensor. Hope this helps! Drive Safely, Raza

It's the speed sensor. I think it's in the diff but I could be and probably am wrong. It might be the sensor or it might be the wire coming from the sensor is broken. Had it happen on my E30 M3. But I'm 99.9% that this failure won't throw the CEL on an E36.
