Well, since I really want a pair of the sunbelt/bimmerworld cams I asked James Clay how much they cost with the chip and camshaft's...$1799 from Bimmerworld. I think we had a discussion a while back about the chip being sold for something like 1200. Now all I need to do is sell my trusty 87 535is turbo, aka non family funds usable for toys! Gary (bad case of jet lag!!!) and glad to be back home!

Dave, I have a Conforti chip for this model year. I did not respond off list because I had a general question about it. How do I determine which model year is compatible with the chip I have. BTW I removed this chip to upgrade to a new the MAF and chip. John Pease __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.yahoo.com

#3. Frustrating Tranny leak - from kevin ogrodnik

Date: Wed, 2 Nov 2005 11:47:55 -0800 (PST) From: kevin ogrodnik <kwogrodnik@yahoo.com> Subject: Frustrating Tranny leak My tranny is leaking from where the shifter shaft enters the tranny (above the rear seal). It only leaks at the track and has zero leakage during street driving. Confirmed that is it the shifter seal leaking and not the vent valve. Have changed the shifter seal twice, switched to thicker redline MTF and it still leaks. Not sure what to do after pulling the tranny twice and all checked out ok. Any feedback is appreciated. The car is a 95. Thanks in advance. Kevin __________________________________ Yahoo! FareChase: Search multiple travel sites in one click. http://farechase.yahoo.com

Other please chime in. I'm not sure if the '96 has a different ECU or not. I know, it won't work in a '97 or later because the ECU is different along with engine size and OBD-II. Yeah specifically the person with the extra chip should look at the date on the door jamb of the car that the chip is coming from. If it has a '94 production date then it won't work on a 1/95 prod. car. If it's 1/95 or higher (but still an OBD1 car) then it should work. The cutoff for coded EWS (EWSI vs II I think) is 1/95. Bear in mind, one instance of a misfire code is not necessarily indicative of a problem/issue. OBD-II will set a code for *minimal* occurances/momentary glitches. Usual SOP is to reset the light/code, continue driving, and if the same code reappears, THEN investigate. IMHO, YMMV, etc. > Is a simple FGR8KQC (copper) Bosch a good choice? I see Turner promotes > FGR8KQE (Nickel-Yttrium). Yep, those (that) is a good choice. BTW, the FGR8KQE has replaced the FGR8KQC, direct from Bosch. Cheers, Jim Bassett

Thanks Jim, I have already reset it twice, and it has been sometime since I changed plugs, so I figured swap them first before I start question the direct coil unit. I could be asking about replacing one of those next, as the misfire has been consistent on that cylinder (code F1) Regards, Stan Shaw Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net Phone: (413) 599-0399 Fax: (413) 599-0421 Excell.Net Owner/Operator http://www.Excell.Net/ 928 Owners Club President http://www.928OC.org/ 928Racing.net Team Member http://www.928Racing.net/ "Liberty once lost is lost forever." - John Adams

Cool, sounds like you got it covered. > I could be asking about replacing one of those next, as the misfire > has been consistent on that cylinder (code F1) If you get to that point, swap that coil onto another cylinder, and see if the fault follows the coil. That'll nail it down for sure. Coils are ~$60 IIRC, so you probably want to make sure you absoltely have to replace one before doing so :-) Jim Bassett

Just my 2 cents, Jim Bassett - does electronic troubleshooting as part of job, learned this lesson the hard way :-)
