I'm a tad over 2800 right now. I was looking at John (Raven Performance) Dimoff's E36 M3 track car a few weeks ago at Mid Ohio. This is by far the most beautifully prepared M3 I've ever seen, absolutely flawless construction. With an elaborate chrome-moly full cage (tied not only into the the rear shock towers but also to the rear subframe mounting area) and pretty much every other weight saving measure you can think of he estimates it at 2350 lbs, slightly over the build target of 2300. And this is with a Euro 3.2 and its heavier 6-speed. Neil Fort Wayne, IN 96 M3 - Bastard child 03 525iT - Sterling Grey Metallic 77 MGB - Original owner, need to sell 05 Mini - Cooper S with LSD!

BMWonics are sometimes misleading or suffer translation into common language. I confirmed a bad thermo last night btw. I took it out and wholla, it was stuck, but only because it was broken. The carriage on the front side that centers the shaft and connects on either side of the housing snapped and pulled thru, I lil metal flange that was previously pressed in was dangling ready to come loose, so I am glad I got it in time, maybe could've seized the pump or blocked some had it the chance to circulate! The internals were flopped to one side so besides the shaft being bent needless to say it was passing coolant much more than necessary. How bout that!! Dang PO had green stuff in there. Good it was changed at least, bad not bmw quality stuff. BTW, haven't heard any chatter on the list about these pumps coming out.... http://www.stewartcomponents.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Cate gory_Code=BMWHPWP $195 ouch! Bimmerworld is taking orders as is Stewart themselves, although delivery is Jan or feb depending on where you go. Not sure I want to be the guinea pig and see if these hold up, not sure if it's worth the x-tra coin, although I could justify with pending supercharger install... I am not sure if there are other Hi-po pumps out there either. That was what the article's central point was. And that goes doubly so for the current E46 generation, as it is faster by another factor and allows the students to get into even bigger troubles before it's too late. So here's a question: how do we as instructors adapt to these ever faster cars to better instruct students of all levels to make sure that both we and the students get to go home in one piece after a school? Imagine what the E90 M3 (rumoured to be powered by a V8) will do and how much faster it will be than the E46 M3. And with the improvement they've made to the chassis, it'll allow even greater lattitude to the driver before it becomes and unrecoverable mess. And there is always the one adrenaline/hormone driven student, especially for some reason in the intermediate level, who wants to pass EVERY car in his run group...those are the ones that scare me. -- Roy - '99 M3 Estoril Blue > > Ahh, no. I remember when I got my E36M3 back in '98, I had no idea how to drive (probably still don't) and had lots to learn. At the same time, the geezers with the E30s already had their car for how long? Or if they were fellow E36M3 owners but with a dedicated E30 track car, that already shows that they were experienced and wanted the cheaper route. When the E46M3 came out, you had a ton of young people buy them for one reason or another and start showing up at the track. These are the guys who show up at car meets with the latest digital cameras and video recorders....a completely different culture than the E36M3 crowd (as I'm sure the E36M3 crowd was different than the E30M3 crowd), IMO. So...when the E90M3 comes out, I'm sure there will be a lot of rich, skill-less drivers showing up at driver schools and, yes, they will crash and have off-road excursions...and the consequence of damage will be even higher because the car will be even more powerful, etc. Chester
