I assume you'll be putting a OE head gasket back on. When you buy the kit, it'll include valve guides (or am I thinking valve seals...ugh) and all sorts of other things. Yes, I think I'm talking about valve seals. Get a valve seal puller! Something like this: http://www.zdmak.com/wbstore/main.asp?action=PROD&PROD=10218A&CTMP=1&LowCt=0 Will save you tons of headache. Or, you can do what we did and grind down a floor tile nipper and ever so carefully use it to grab the valve stem seals =X Chester --- marco <m3driver@iname.com> wrote: > valve guides. at least check them. > > Marco > > -----Original Message----- > From: Stan Shaw [mailto:Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net] > Checking/changing the lifters, springs, retainers and keepers > > Having the head checked for cracks and warpage

I got the mahle ones for 5 something at > Zygmunt before, the wix I just got was 11 something. Wix makes very high quality filters with a threaded-end bypass valve and a silicone anti-drainback valve. The filter media is very good. Buy your Wix filters from here: http://www.fleetfilter.com/ (no affiliation, just know they have very good prices and plan to buy from them next time). I believe the 51160 is around $6. Wix makes the Napa Gold (and many other branded filters) and they typically cost $10-$12 like you experienced. Another alternative is the Purolator Pure One which has some of the best filtering ability and also very good construction: http://www.pureoil.com/DisplayTab.aspx?tid=1&pid=1 Mahle and Mann also make perfectly acceptable oil filters and this is what I have typically used. #3. FS: BBK and Ignition Coils - from Andrew Joseph

Date: Thu, 19 Jan 2006 09:23:10 -0600 From: "Andrew Joseph" <ajoseph1981@earthlink.net> Subject: FS: BBK and Ignition Coils **Sorry if this double posts...first attempt seems to have not made it** I have the following for sale since I sold the M3 almost a year ago now, and well, I'm tired of looking at the stuff in my garage. 1 Big Brake Kit. Movit style front, genuine Movit rear. The front uses the same Porsche calipers and rotors that the Movit kit uses, but I had to make brackets from 7075 Aluminum (anodized afterwards, very beefy) because, well, the company that made the kit had a poor bracket design. The calipers now sit on the rotor the way they should--centered and close to the hub, not with half the pad hanging off. The rear kit has never been mounted. You will get both kits, longer wheel bolts, brackets, fischer stainless lines (for both kits mounted and just front kit mounted), H&R spacers for the front, brake pads, whatever else I forgot to mention that goes with. They were on my M3 for maybe six months, 5000 miles, tops. A little dusty. Can get pics this weekend to send to you. As it's like shoving a camel through a straw to send pics from home, don't ask unless you are REALLY serious. Make a reasonable offer and they are yours. Prefer to get rid of the whole thing in one fell swoop. All "500.00 shipped to me" offers I will kindly just not reply to. 1 set of Ignition Solutions Plasma Direct high energy coils for the S50. That's the '95 M3 engine for the uninitiated. If you don't know that, you probably don't need them :) ...They are in good working order. They were used for about two years. They come *without* the 'elephant trunks'...just reuse yours, or get some new ones at the local stealer. Retail is ~775.00 first 300.00 gets them. Same deal about the pics as above. Just email me...I don't read the digest very often anymore. If you get my spam message, it's a one time thing...fear not, I will get your message. Thanks for the band width, Andrew

Date: Thu, 19 Jan 2006 12:23:17 -0500 From: mdriver13@aol.com Subject: thermostat - what temp rating am I looking for?? Hi Group, This week I've noticed engine running cooler than normal (taking a while to come up to normal operating temperature). Sounds like it's time to replace the thermostat to me. I went to order one on-line, but noticed there are several available, each with different temperature ratings. I know I had this thread saved, but I can't find it, darn, so much for being organized! Which one should I use?? I bought the metal t-housing last year, just waiting for this event to happen, so that will be changed too. regards, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe (sponsored by WCC, JT-Designs, and BimmerWorld) Philly Region SCCA 2005 Philly Region BSP Champion

#7. GGC School at Infineon Raceway, March 4-5, 2006 - from Mark Dadgar

Date: Thu, 19 Jan 2006 22:45:07 -0800 From: Mark Dadgar <mark@pdc-racing.net> Subject: GGC School at Infineon Raceway, March 4-5, 2006 Golden Gate Chapter has just opened registration for our annual Spring driving school at Infineon Raceway in beautiful Sonoma, CA. The cost is $449 for club members and $489 for non-members (includes a 1- year BMW CCA membership) and it will take place the weekend of March 4-5. If you have no previous high performance driving experience, a Car Control Clinic is required prior to the Thunderhill school. Conveniently, we have one of those scheduled for Feb 18 at Monster Park. The CCC cost is $90 and includes lunch. More info for these events can be found at: http://www.ggcbmwcca.org If you've never been to a track school, I *highly* encourage it. The skills you learn there will serve you well on the street. Plus, it's just a TON of fun! All makes are allowed, but BMWs are given priority. However, it has been several years since this has been an issue, so don't hesitate to alert your friends. Most convertibles and targas are not allowed at the Thunderhill School (see the event docs for more info), but they are more than welcome at the Car Control Clinic. #9. Followup: my m3 fell off moving ramps today :( - from Adam Lazur

I got my car back yesterday from B-Line Body Shop in San Jose after 34 (!!!) days in a rental. The bill came up just shy of $7k. The moving company has been accomadating about the whole thing and took care of the bill plus the rental. My only gripe now is that since the body shop visit the airbag light is coming on for a minute or two after starting the car. I'm probably going to gripe to them about it as I don't have an SRS tool. There's nothing like a long period in a crappy rental car to make you appreciate driving your own car :) -- Adam Lazur
