I've used both a Blitzsafe adapter and a Soundgate adapter, both are less then $100 and use the same connector as the CD changer (so it actually replaces the CD changer if you have it). The Blitzsafe worked great in my E46 M3, but I could not get it to work reliably in my E36 M3, so I purchased the Soundgate which worked great. Both of the adapters are have simple line inputs and will accept sound from any music device. Neither will control an iPod like the Denison units do, but I prefer using the iPod's interface anyway. The model number for the Blitzsafe is AUXBMWV2. You should be able to Google it or find it on PriceGrabber.com. I found it for $70 on PriceGrabber. This small box will sit in the rear of the car and then from Radio Shack I purchased a small RCA to 3.5mm adapter and a 3.5mm audio extension cable that runs to the front of the car. You can plug the extension cable into the headphone jack or preferably use a dock adapter to get a true lineout signal and bypass the iPod's internal amp. The connection should be similar to the following: CD Changer connectors > Soundgate AUXBMWV2 > RCA to 3.5mm adapter > 3.5mm audio cable > Dock Adapter > iPod Hope this helps, -Aman on 1/31/06 2:12 PM, Michael Michalski at m.michalski@comcast.net wrote: > Date: Tue, 31 Jan 2006 13:05:46 -0600 > From: "Michael Michalski" <m.michalski@comcast.net> > Subject: iPOD Question > > This may have already been asked, if so I apologize in advance. Date: Tue, 31 Jan 2006 16:36:21 -0500 From: "Ahmad Lutfeali" <m3_racer99@hotmail.com> Subject: Group Buy on VAC mounts Well, I just finished building my race car a few weeks back and I threw in a custom stainless steel plate along with the Sparco side mounts to hook the seat up. The seat would sit slightly tilted to the left. Didn't bother me much. Two weekends ago, while at Sebring, I saw a few cars with the VAC seat mounts and I was extremely impressed with the design and having the flexibility to align the seat correctly. The finish, appearance is also top notch and to vouch for the guys, I will be using my wholesale company account to purchase more of these mounts for a couple of friends (hello Mo :) My cost on this is 15% off the retail plus shipping (not a penny in my pocket, just passing the deal along for a great product and a great company :) If interested, email me privately so I can finalize all the orders by next Friday the 9th of Feb. #3. Race Car Finally Done (hmmm, well almost) - from Ahmad Lutfeali
Top
Date: Tue, 31 Jan 2006 16:42:32 -0500 From: "Ahmad Lutfeali" <m3_racer99@hotmail.com> Subject: Race Car Finally Done (hmmm, well almost) Folks, Last summer I had set my mind on building an BMW Club Racer. After much thought (buying a built racer VS. building my own) I went with the latter (wanted to go through the process at least once. Then on deciding weather to build a Prepared level car or to go with Stock, I finally decided on staying with Stock. Donor car was a perfectly fine Fern Green 98/2 M3 with 85K on the odometer. All inspection and maintenance items were in taken care of and the car didn't come with any handicaps. Here are the mods and the prices straight from the spreadsheet (in case anyone wants to know the budget): 1) ECIS intake $200 2) Rogue Exhaust (used) $350 ($500 shipped and installed MINUS stock exhaust sold $150) 3) Dinan Software $300 4) M Coupe short shifter $85 5) Sparco Pro2000 Seats (pair) with VAC mount (on driver's side), sliders and side mounts $600 ($1400 MINUS $800 stock Vader pair and rear headrests) 6) Turner I Stock suspension $1340 shipped. 7) UUC Front sway bar $75 ($125 MINUS $50 for stock front and rears sold) 8) Kirk Racing roll cage $700 shipped 9) Stand 21 6 Point new Harnesses $350 for the pair. 10) New set of Kosei K1 17*8.5 wheels $650 shipped. 11) Brake ducting kit $300 shipped and installed. 12) Rogue 10mm spacers and lug nuts $100~ shipped. 13) Fire extinguisher $25 (upgrading to a fire system-optional in my class-before year end) 14) Momo wheel with adapter $0 (swapped for stock steering wheel). 15) Roll bar padding (FIA and noodles) $70 16) Transponder (pending item) $300 TOTAL MODS: $5,500 (rounded). Tires and brake pads NOT included since they are consumables. On top of that, I did the entire cooling system with new radiator, water pump and metal housing, thermostat, Redline water wetter along with tranny and diff oil, new rotors, fluids, RTAB (replaced with Bimmerworld Poly bushings), E46 RSM with Z3 reinforcements, blue printed injectors, tie rods, control arms, alignment and a rebuilt diff (mostly maintenance but it add up to an additional $1,500). New helmet Sparco WTT $400 Sparco 3 layer suit $500 Puma FIA shoes $100 Sparco FIA gloves $90 HANS device (pending item) $850 installed CR License with physical $200 In short, I did come just around the budget of $10K I had set aside. Pending mods: Bimmerworld Fuel pump upgrade, oil and diff coolers, temperature guages, GPS data aq, clear rear brake lights (this mod is worth 1 full second at Road Atlanta). Being conservative, I also put aside $3K for crash damage and immediate racing needs (yes its low but at least I have some cash in hand set aside and this account it to be replenished to $3K at all times if dipped into). Tested out the car at Sebring 2 weekends ago (shaking out the gremlins ;) Thanks to the Bimmerworld Racing team for testing and helping me fine-tune the beast. PHEW!!! Even though it was a stock class car, it sure did put a lot of toll on my TIME. No labor cost since work was done with help from Mike McCoy (Racer's Market) but I did spend a whole lot of hours testing, tuning, breaking nuts and waiting for the next one to come in, yelling, screaming, nights and weekends put aside towards this (not to mention I tried 4 different suspension kits before settling with this one). This year I will only do 2, max 3 weekends of racing (to get off the rookie status) at Road Atlanta and Barber (Roebling if possible) with usual Driver's Ed (instructing) at SE region; the car is completely street legal and I will be driving it to and back from the track, I would like to get an open trailer and a truck (project which wont get realized until end of year). I definitely have a complaining g/f now ;) Whoever said set aside a resonable racing budget and then triple it, was DEAD ON! Ahmad Lutfeali IS 1998 M3/2

Gruppe, I've found that by using studs (quality ones) and quality spacers (H&R?) that all my wheel/tire/brake clearance problems are solved quickly even when I'm not sure which spacer will solve the issue. I carry a 5mm, 10mm, 15mm and 20mm set(s) with me and swap depending on which wheels I use. Bolts are a PITA because they have to be matched to the spacer. Carlos 98 M3 RRT studs, sometimes on stock wheels, Koseis, or Forgelines, all clear the Stoptech brakes.
