The problem appears to be now gone, since I replaced the steering rack. My steering would be more difficult to turn in one direction than the other. I did replace the reservoir and filter first with no detectible difference. I also pulled the steering column to check the universals and found no reason to change them. Not sure if that helps much... Has anyone BTDT? Do you have an E36 M3? If so, you need to read more closely: Will not fit E36 M3, M Roadster, or M Coupe. The M3 does not have replaceable ball joints. Also, you couldn't give Meyle ball joints to me for free, every Meyle part I have used with a ball joint failed in short order. In my book, Meyle is synonymous with junk. Go for a proper set of new Lemforder control arms. Regards, Rich

To my surprise, it's still working quite well. I can't even remember what I paid, but it was a decent price and low enough that I considered it disposable after a couple of years of use. It's gone at least a year beyond what I expected, though. ;) I can't remember the torque specs, but I usually give two to three light braps of the gun when putting lug nuts back on, and then I finish them off with the torque wrench. Something like a Snap-On might end up lasting longer and being more reliable, but mine hasn't failed me yet. Jonathan L.

The snap-on unit is almost $500, and that's without a replacement battery! http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=yes&tool=all&item_ID=64144&group_ID=16217&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog A similar dewalt gun can be had for $240 at Home depot: http://tinyurl.com/c6u8f Plus it comes with a second batter and a rugged carrying case. I was going to do more research, but I suddenly have work to do. They offer two versions, one with a 3/8ths and one with a 1/2 inch driver. Mine is the 1/2. Frankly, I love the thing. Tire changes take no time compared with using hand tools, particularly with long wheel studs installed. I have not tried running the batteres out but I would anticipate you could easily change wheels on 4-5 cars on a single battery. Gus

Same here except I started with a Snap-On 14.4V and since then I upgraded to an 18V battery (lots more torque). There are cheaper cordless impacts out there but for me the Snap-On has been great, easily one of the best tools I own (and the most borrowed). Carlos. 98 M3

Comes with one battery and a 60 minute charger. Interestingly, it costs the same to buy another complete gun as it does a spare battery, so I bring the charger, but I haven't had to use it yet. I know, you get what you pay for, but I'm only using this on track weekends, I use air at home. So far this thing is mighty impressive for the asking price. I had earlier bought an HF 230 ft-lb 18V model that was seriously heavy duty, but not variable speed, which for tightening, is the only time I ever thought you could have too much torque - all at once. Took it back for the one mentioned above. Sometimes, cheap is good (and if not, I'm still out less than a spare snap on battery) Rob 93 325 Jim Bassett wrote: > Date: Thu, 2 Feb 2006 10:09:18 -0800 (PST) > From: "Jim Bassett" <jim@jimbassett.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Impact Gun > > On Thu, February 2, 2006 9:02 am, Ahmad Lutfeali said: > >> Can someone please guide me to a good source (along with the right >> product) >> for a wireless impact gun. Me, I've got an old 12v Snap On w/14.4 battery (that makes it go into prepared class, I think). My 12v battery just died and I had to get a new 14.4 (charger won't support 18v battery or I'd have moved into a full mod class gun). Around $100 for the battery which is more than the 18v HF setup, if I remember correctly... Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock

I might as well save money if I am going to get questionable quality). 3. 3rd time to put in the less expensive rebuilt rack. Changing the rack is relatively easy.
