#1. Radiator stop leak - from Carey Probst

Date: Mon, 06 Feb 2006 18:56:15 -0500 From: Carey Probst <hcprobst@alum.mit.edu> Subject: Radiator stop leak Have any of you tried any of the radiator stop leak products in your BMWs? Experience and recommendations would be appreciated. I have a pinhole leak in the radiator and it's too cold outside to change it right now. Just want to stop the leak until spring when I can change it and not get frostbite. It's for my E30, not the M3. TIA Carey -- Carey Probst Member, M.I.T. Now with engineering background and more common sense, my take is if it will plug tiny holes in a radiator it can/will build up on surfaces of somewhat larger holes. YMMV but, I don't use the stuff anymore. With the cost of a BMW engine, I will throw a radiator out in a heartbeat if it's bad. Now, there is JB-WELD and products like it and if the leak is somepleace you can get to and dry, that is a better option. IMHO. I went to install my Schroth harnesses last weekend and got stumped at the first hurdle. The instructions say to disable the seatbelt pretensioner and there is a little picture supposedly showing where it is and what to do. I can't for the life of me figure it out. Would someone please tell me where this stupid thing is on a 1997 M3/4? I took some pictures of the underside of the seat to aid the description. http://gwl.rmsolo.org/m3seat/ Thanks, Graeme

Date: Mon, 6 Feb 2006 16:51:37 -0800 From: Raza Uddin <raza.uddin@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Radiator stop leak Kent, If you know where the hole is, I suggest using something like JB Weld or QuikSteel which is available at any Autozone, Kragen, Napa, or any autoparts store. I prefer QuikSteel as it is putty that you knead and will set within 10 minutes and harden completely within an hour (and it even set with a little moisture and coolant on it). I'm currently using it to stop a leak from where the small rubber hose that runs the expansion tank connects to the top right of the radiator. I've been using it for a week with no problems while deciding on which radiator to buy when I R&R my cooling system. Hope this helps! Drive Safely, Raza On 2/6/06, Kent L. Looks like you removed it already. I took mine off of the factory seat and zip tied it to the bottom of my Recaros. If you remove it you will get an airbag fault. There is a way to hotwire the car into thinking it is still installed, Im sure you can google it. The old bearing was cracked, but I suspect the squeak actually came from the spring where it pivots at the top. After new bearing and greased spring pivot, the squeak was history. The replacement is a PITA due to bending old body (mine) in driver footwell - about an hour start to finish. Steve

This site is pretty handy in that they will show you the installation diagrams before you order so you can see what you're getting into.
