So i was driving home from pittsburg the other day and when i stopped for gas i thought i heard a piston knocking...i popped the hood and heard it sounds more like shorts burts of air.. the sound speeds up as i give it a little gas.(can't really hear it inside the car) someone told me it could be a gasket for an air pump/injector for my exaust. has anyone had to replace this before. and was it expensive or difficult...and just added the obd1 manifold to my 97' 328i.. it's nice in the higher rpm, lost a bit of torque low end though. would appreciate it if anyone could get back to me. thanks...Tim --------------------------------- Yahoo! #6. Track tires -update? - from Tim

Date: Sat, 11 Feb 2006 15:47:09 -0500 From: "Tim" <willtj@bellsouth.net> Subject: Track tires -update? Archive search shows a few of you may have tried the Hankook Z211, but I only found one initial impression review. Anyone have experience with these? I'm considering them or the Toyo RA1. Tirerack has the Avon Tech R or Tech Ra that also look interesting. I am looking at 235/40-17 or 225/45-17 for 17/8 SSR integrals. 95M3/stock springs/bilsteins. Thanks for suggestions / reviews. Tim

I'd just put as much tire on the road as possible. For 18x8 wheels go with either 235/40 or 245/40 tires. 225/45 is too narrow, IMHO. I have no experience with the tires you mentioned. Exhaust gaskets are neither expensive nor difficult to replace (well a little more difficult if it's a head to manifold gasket). Try to isolate the location of the leak, you can use a piece of hose held to your ear, just make sure you keep it away from anything that's moving. If you just added the intake I would also suspect an intake leak but if the car is running normally and the idle is steady you can probably rule this one out. Another thought is that if you have an aftermarket intake section before the MAFS with a foam filter you might be hearing that also, mine makes a loud sucking sound when I rev the engine. -- Jamie Howton 2000 M5 1995 M3 Hampshire, IL

#9. have ticket (in MA), need council - from Alexander Fadeev

Date: Sun, 12 Feb 2006 01:12:45 -0500 From: "Alexander Fadeev" <afadeev@smu.edu> Subject: have ticket (in MA), need council Hi folks, I've recently moved to Boston, MA, and have finally ;-) earned a date with a local traffic court for alleged speeding (among other nuisance infractions - the cop was clearly not a Beemer fan) in Cambridge. I'm entirely new to the area and would appreciate local insight into: a). the best course of action that would lead to the least short-term ticket/insurance vs. long-term insurance cost; b). referrals to Cambridge area attorneys; Thanks in advance, -- alex f P.S.: For anyone who might remember/care about my earlier winter tire quest - I had gone with the new Blizzak Revo 1's on 16" wheels. A few thousand miles later, I've been very pleasantly surprised with the snow/ice traction (trips to the mountains and Canada) as well as the wet and the dry. With the tires pumped up to 40psi all around, the steering response has improved dramatically and the sidewall flex/steering input delay are minimal. More details in the tirerack's reviews' section.
