I have TWO sets of SSR wheels for my E36 M3, I am thinking about selling. They are Competitions in silver, 18x8.5 frt., 18x9 rear. One set is brand new never had tires mounted the other set are on the car and have been used less than 500 miles, one track week end. I paid around 1800 for each set. The rear 9's a 255 maybe 265 tire will fit. The 9's do not fit the front do to back spacing. Anyone interested in both sets of wheels? Or just the new set for 1700? Thanks Gary

Just wondering if there's a similar tire at Tire Rack as there are a couple new choices now. I've been instructing for 7 years on many different tires and have found no better compromise than the RA-1. Sure wish Tire Rack or Discount Tire would pick them up. Jeff

There is apparently bad blood between Tire Rack and Toyo. It would be a lot closer to the RA-1 than the V710 (which, apparently, is more like a Hoosier). Another 2 cents, Jim Bassett

Has anyone had a problem with their expansion tank? It's not real cheap and don't want to replace it if not needed, but would hate to have it fail on me after replacing everything else in the system. Not sure what kind of pressure this thing's exposed to. FYI, I have a 98 with 65k miles. Currently all street miles, but life is about to change for this car ;^) Jeff

Has anyone had a problem with their expansion tank? The only problem I've had was the opening becoming out of round. Rather than risk a problem, I replaced it. Can't recall off the top of my head which car, but in either case the expansion tank would have had over 100,000 miles on it. Unless there's obvious visible issues with the tank, I think you'll be fine. Just keep an eye on it (along with everything else :-)) during the car's "new life". Jim Bassett

#9. 88 E30 325i for sale - from david tow

Date: Wed, 22 Feb 2006 01:27:16 -0800 From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: 88 E30 325i for sale Hi, M3 digesters, My brother is selling his 325i 4-door. It is a fully loaded 1988 luxury model. He's asked me to post this here - he has not put it in the market for sale yet. Here's some info about the car: The interior and exterior are in very good to excellent condition in her original grayish blue/beige colors. The timing belt broke some time ago, and he's had a major service done on the cylinder head. The car runs very strongly and smoothly now. It cost him over $2500 on the engine rebuild. Other recent major works included the replacement of the fuel pump, relay and main relay. The car remains 100% stock with the exception of a Dinan suspension upgrade, which I had had Dinan performed during my ownership. The car has had 3 owners in her life - the original owner, me and my brother. He's got all the paper work for the car including some enthusiast's books about the E30 cars. Everything works in the car, including the air conditioning. It has had about 180k miles. He is asking for high blue book for it. But you could be sure that it would provide you years of reliable service as far as engine and other major components go, because he's already done it for you. Please respond to me privately if you are interested in the car. Thanks! David

A spacer would have solved the rubbing problem on the strut (I assume it rubbed on the lower spring perch.) Where was the rubbing on the fender liner? From your description, I would guess that it was on the engine side of the wheel well. A spacer might have helped this as well, but I've experienced this with 255/40-17 V700s on 17x8.5" SSR Comps too. Not so bad as it's pretty rare to be at full lock. I'm most concerned about rubbing in the rear where the fender starts to flare out. Even 245/40-17 SO-3s on stock 8.5" wheels would rub there under full compression with Eibach Pro-Kit springs. For the grip of the V710s, though, I'd be willing to to a little fender... um... massaging. There is evidently about a 1" gap between the outer skin and inner skin of the fender.
