I have this set-up on my '95 M3, I highly recommend it and I agree for the most part with the comments above with the exception that the light rattle occurs in neutral with the clutch ENGAGED (it doesn't happen when the clutch isn't engaged). I have raised my rpms in neutral by ~150 rpms and it is no longer an issue even in neutral with the clutch engaged. Even when it was, it was extremely mild and insignificant (as you spend less than 1% of your time in this position). Regards, Rich

The knock sensors are very sensitive to vibration so you may not have a problem with the senders. Tighten down the knock sender itself, but don't go crazy on torque it down 2) disconnect the battery for "a while" thirty minutes or so to clear the codes after you've done they can be changed with the manifold on the car but it's a pain. removing all the rest of the intake makes it a bit easier. Mel, Sorry to check in late on this, but you should really, really consider the JB Racing sprung-hub ltw flywheel kit. It's sold by two different list sponsors and it looks to be the cat's pajamas. I have an early Rogue kit on my '98, and it works great and makes great power. Besides the power, the best thing about a ltw flywheel is the heel-and-toe blip - it's instant and very racecar-like (unlike my race car, which has the lunky stock version - ironic!). Both Rogue and Bimmerworld are fantastic to deal with. These guys race the stuff, and they are pros. They know what works. The sprung hub dramatically reduces the idle rattle that's common with ltw flywheel kits. Dave Hogg

It throws a code every other month..I just clear it and its fine for a month or so. Sooner or later I will replace them. It will idle kind of rough with one bad sensor other than that it runs fine once your rolling... I doubt very seriously you could do it from the bottom since you HAVE to torque them down with a good torque wrench, or you can damage the $$$uckers..Takes very little extra torque to damage them. I would call BS on the doing it from below..Obviously they have never seen the HUGE amount of crap under the manifold...I've had my head off 3 times and the manifold off on S50/S52 cars more than I can count...You can barley get your hand under it to unhook some of the ICV stuff....Let alone put a torque wrench under it... Gary Manifold off to delete a bunch of stuff while turbocharging it... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Thomas" <dave@sasdatalink.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Friday, March 17, 2006 9:51 PM Subject: [E36M3] replacing knock sensors on '95 M3 > Date: Fri, 17 Mar 2006 19:47:31 -0800 > From: Dave Thomas <dave@sasdatalink.com> > Subject: replacing knock sensors on '95 M3 > > > Can the knock sensors be replaced without removing the intake manifold on > a > '95 M3? > > I am getting a code 1225 (knock sensor #1), is it worth the effort to > remove > and inspect the sensor or does a code usually mean the sensor needs > replacing? > > Dave T. > > > ************************************************* > Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: > > Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com > Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com > Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com > Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com > Treehouse Racing http://www.treehouseracing.com > Elephant Motorsports Inc. http://www.elephantmotorsports.com > > DIGEST INFORMATION: > http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm > ************************************************* > >
