Feels good! Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone local with corner scales. Are there any listers that have been down this road and have measured fender lip heights that I can use as a proxy? I'm looking to get close, not looking for perfection. Obviously, the car is a two-door. Thanks to all. Pat Kelly Richmond, VA 95M3Coupe, a little lower than before pkelly@agincourtcapital.com

Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 12:37:49 -0500 From: "Stan Shaw" <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: Rear Subframe Bushings I am considering replacing my rear subframe bushings in my '96 M3. The car is a fun street car with a growing use on the track. Seems like there are three options: 1. Urethane for the street such as Powerflex 2. Stock bushings 3. Urethane for the track For my use, I have heard advocates of both #1 and #2. I am interested in who is using what, and their opinion. Thanks! Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 11:01:22 -0700 From: "Weston-Lewis, Graeme" <GWESTON@lsil.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] obdii scanner I had an autotap when I drove a 99 Grand Prix and really liked the extended GM parameters it had available and sold it with my car. I now have the USB Autoenginuity which works well with my BMW's and Boxster. As far as basic look, feel and useablity, I don't think there is much to differentiate them, but I'd give the nod to the Autotap system. The two front runners at this time are from autoenginuity or autotap. I want GM , HONDA and of course BMW advanced diagnostics but only GM seems to be commonly available. The autoenginuity system with GM advanced is $400 and the autotap version is $300. Any suggestions for other systems to look at or experience with either of these two products? Just turned 34,000 miles and has never been driven in the rain/snow etc. New tires, one owner with all records. You will not find one nicer. Not a single chip, ding or mark of any kind. Located in northern Illinois. Private me (jbjerke@charter.net) if interested so I don't clutter the list. $12k My apologies if I'm not supposed to post this type of ad, but E36 M3 enthusiasts may have a good use for this car. It's the cat's pajamas in terms of feel, force required and certainty of shifts. But it does introduce new vibrations, which I believe are magnified by the ltw flywheel. Off-throttle is the worst. It also vibrates at low rpm acceleration. I'd LOVE one of these on the race car, and I like it enough on the street car that I overlook the noise/vibrations. But if I weren't so wowed with how it shifted, I could even be miffed about the NVH. Dave Hogg

Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 19:37:35 -0600 From: "Dave Swingle" <swingle@dmcnews.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] noises after short shifter install I put one of the A/S shifters as sort of an experiment on my wife's E39 530i and have the same issue. I've installed UUCs on a couple of cars including our prior 528i and my current M3 and never noticed a noise increase. Unfortunatly its a bit out of character on an E39. I don't recall all the other noises you mention, just more gear noise. Sounds to me like, in your case, the mechanic didn't get the rubber boot that seals against the transmission tunnel engaged all the way. It's a pain in the neck and I can see where a mechanic on the clock wouldn't bother. The main mechanical difference is that the A/S shifter replaces the entire rod and the part that attaches to the transmission where the UUC uses the original one. Obviously A/S takes something out of the damping, my guess is that the hunk of foam up in there is made of stiffer material. Maybe your mech removed it to get more room to work. that is the only thing I can think of. Feels very solid and precise and short (although I went with the 25-30% reduction, not the 40% kit). However, I am noticing some different sounds than before, stuff that might be normal (?) after installing a kit. I definitely hear the starter a bit louder and the gearbox whine a bit more. The sounds are coming from the front of the console area, ahead of (toward the front of the car from) the shifter itself, and underneath the console. On quick inspection, the two levels of insulation/rubber isolation dampers around the shift lever appear intact. Any thoughts? Is this to be expected? It isn't obnoxious, just different from what I was used to hearing. Regards, Tom Yee 97 M3/4 88 M3

#10. Dinan Stage 2 Software Upgrade - from Raza Uddin
Top
Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2006 12:19:06 -0800 From: "Raza Uddin" <raza.uddin@gmail.com> Subject: Dinan Stage 2 Software Upgrade I recently picked up a Dinan intake to complement my Dinan exhaust and was hoping to upgrade my Stage 1 software with a flash of Stage II to handle the increased airflow. It is especially tempting with Dinan's Spring sale going on until 3/31/2006. Anyone on the list with this setup? Does yours include the fuel pressure regulator? I used to have the same setup (intake, exhaust, stage II software) in my E36 325i, but don't recall if I had an FPR or not. How important do you think this is? I would think our stock injectors would be able to handle a slight increase in flow. I was hoping for some end-user feedback before I call Dinan and talk to them about it. Thanks in advance! Drive Safely, Raza
