Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2006 15:50:22 -0400 From: "Rich Dorffer" <E36M3Digest@gmail.com> Subject: Power Steering Refresh > > From: "Paul L Fisher" <bmw@paul-fisher.com> > > How I flushed it on mine was to use a turkey baster, get as much out as > possible, fill with new, start the engine, go lock-to-lock several times, > stop engine, repeat until I've put 2 quarts of new in. Although simplified, what Paul fails to mention which is fairly important is that he had to disconnect something to allow the old fluid to be pushed out (typically the return line that attaches to the reservoir) and to catch the old fluid. Pacific BMW had them on their website for $102. Don't expect fast shipping, but that's the best price I've seen. #3. Heavy steering - from Scott Stiles

Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2006 13:04:38 -0700 From: "Scott Stiles" <stiles_s@hotmail.com> Subject: Heavy steering My M3's steering is heavier than I remember my original '99 being when new. Now, this could be foggy memory, or a real issue. Not sure. To date, all I've done is turkey-baster flush w/some new fluid (and replaced the tie rods). Didn't seem to make a difference. My question is: - Will replacing the reservoir+filter let more fluid flow, and hence lighten steering? - Anything else that might help? When underway, the steering effort and feel seem just fine. It's parking-lot speeds where it feels a bit heavy. Thanks, Scott. '97 M3/2, ~85k miles, Bilsteins, RGRs, in state of constant restoration :)

#4. Foglight Removal & Covers? - from twisty M3

Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2006 13:08:39 -0700 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: Foglight Removal & Covers? All this talk of removing weight and unused stuff on my car and I realized... I never use the fogs, so why not yank 'em? I'm guessing it can't be a horribly involved process. On that note... I don't want big holes in the front of the car afterwards, and already have secondary brake ducting, so I'd like to plug the fog holes. ;) I could swear I've seen what appeared to be factory covers, but can't find anything on RealOEM.com. Are these factory pieces, and would anyone happen to have the part numbers or a source? I'd hope they're only a few bucks each since they're small and plastic. Then again, there is a roundel involved. Thanks, Jonathan L.

#5. Plastic Clip to Mount Wiper Blade to Wiper Arm? - from Jeff Bjerke

Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2006 15:30:08 -0500 From: "Jeff Bjerke" <jbjerke@charter.net> Subject: Plastic Clip to Mount Wiper Blade to Wiper Arm? I broke the U-shaped plastic clip that holds the wiper blade to the wiper arm on my 1998 M3. I checked with the dealer and I have to order the whole blade to get this clip. I have a set of OEM refills and prefer to keep the OEM blade with the wind deflector, so I don't want to buy an aftermarket blade. Anyone know of a source for this clip? Jeff

Try looking under "318". Foglights were options on the 318, whereas they were standard on the 6-cyl 3-series & M3s. So the covers would only be "available" for a 318. Jim Bassett

I'm leaking ATF from the power steering reservoir so that's probably part of my steering issues. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=245961 Didn't solve my steering wheel squeak completely though ;) But the spray seems to evaporate, I'm going to try to find a heavy oil in a can.
