Even though registration just opened, run group are filling up already. However, openings do remain in the newbie run group. If you don't have a ton of experience and want to try one of the best driver schools and one of the best race tracks, check out the GVC website. http://www.gvc-bmwcca.org/ Vince President GVC BMW CCA --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. You had mentioned earlier that you could help me contact some folks down in SF if I needed to get a remote buyer's inspection done. There's a couple of M3s down there that are possible candidates for me to buy. Thanks! Pete peterl@standingwave.org 206-660-1234

I guess I prefer my method where one quart or a bit more would essentially replace all the fluid. Regards, Rich On 4/12/06, Paul L Fisher <bmw@paul-fisher.com> wrote: > > Nope. Disconnect nothing. #7. sunroof mechanism - from Brian Ruiz

Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2006 21:51:45 -0700 From: "Brian Ruiz" <eurowerke@gmail.com> Subject: sunroof mechanism The repair kit should run you about $60-$65, with CCA discount, depending where you get it from. However, after I pulled the cassette I found I actually didn't need anything to fix the problem (that I could see anyway). All I had to do was put the headliner rails back into the track. I've had no problems with the headliner since. Although with the hassle of disassembling the headliner, you might want to pick it up and install, regardless of if your current one is actually broken. After all, they are 10 year old plastic pieces in there, and I'm sure their malleability is not quite the same as when it was new ;). In addition, it gives you a chance to make sure all the sunroof drain tubes are clean, and to pull out any leaves and dirt that have gotten stuck inside the roof, contributing to rusting. I have been driving around with just the cassette bolted up and no headliner since then :-P. Makes it feel race-car-sy. ;) hehe... There was a price to my experimenting to figure out how the sunroof mechanism worked, though. I pushed the track guides all over the place to study their movement. So after I reassembled, I got the dreaded sunroof rattle, caused by the spring loaded deflector beam that pops up when the roof is slid back. It wasn't being held down tight anymore, so it rattles now even when the roof is closed. I may actually just replace the whole cassette anyway, I've been debating for these past months whether or not to buy it, to get rid of all the common E36 sunroof problems at once, and just have a fresh sunroof. Price is the factor though, it runs about $400 or so.. In any case, if anyone is extremely eager to jump into the repair, I'd be glad to give you a call and describe the process, or answer questions when needed. Brian build 8/95

I had also replaced the PS reservoir/filter and of course the fluid, and recently before had replace control arms and bushings. I have put on a few thousand miles, and it seems fine now.
