It serves to deflect air up and into the radiator (pretty sure that's what it does, but only going from memory). When I installed mine I thought it would be a slam dunk, and was surprised it took so long (couple of hours I think). Were I to do it again it would be much quicker. So, the flat part faces the road. It's should touch the bottom of the radiator. It's 'aerodynamic' in that it extend deeper under the car than the stock plastic bit. This may, or may not reduce under car turbulence. It surely prevents the turbulence created by the crappy stock piece ripping out :) >Subject: RE: [E36M3] Re: JTD UNDERTRAY > >Ok, Im either a moron or overthinking it. After getting that info, install was a piece of cake. Its in and its a very nice looking improvement. Will also make for changing anything down there much easier. Ok, done taking pics of it too. So if anyone has questions in the future about this install, I have pics for it. I have this sneaking suspicion that the local shop swapped out my exhaust with one visually nearly identical when I had the car in for exhaust gasket repair. The road grime on the cat section looks different than the rear section. Is there a part number on the exhaust I can check? Call me crazy... Thanks, Scott. -----Original Message----- From: Tom, Steven [mailto:stom@qualcomm.com] Sent: Saturday, April 15, 2006 5:36 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2006 17:27:19 -0700 From: "Tom, Steven" <stom@qualcomm.com> Subject: FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars I just thought I would throw this out there even though it's only stock '96 M3 parts. Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2006 13:32:47 -0400 From: "Alex Demsky" <hyper_m3@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: JTD UNDERTRAY - Pics Hey all, There were quite a few people who expressed interest in pics so Ive posted some up. I want to say that anything from JT-Designs is perfectly crafted and fits (once understood) in place like OEM. Ive had their tranny brace for many years now its still one of my favorite mods. Jims responses directly to me were nothing short of immediate and friendly. Exactly the type of company most aftermarket suppliers should take notes from. About the undertray. Once figured out, it really is very easy to install. The best part about it (you can see in the pics) is that theres much more ground clearance for parking blocks and curbs now. However, on a nice jaunt I just took, the front end felt more stable at triple-digit speeds. If anyone has ever had to replace or fix anything this undertray deletes, just order this right away. Other upside is it really makes it easier to change the radiator fluid in the future. Anyway, heres the link for pics. http://alex.digital7.com/JTDUndertray/ If theres anything you want to see that I didnt take a pic of, please let me know and Ill post it up there. Is there some trick to get the spring action back? Mine was doing the same thing. I put a few drops of White Lightning lubricant on the hinge contact points and it has been fine for over a year. White Lightening is available on most bicycle stores. Rex
