#2. Rotors - from Alex Demsky

Date: Mon, 17 Apr 2006 13:19:04 -0400 From: "Alex Demsky" <hyper_m3@hotmail.com> Subject: Rotors Seen a few posts about pads but Im inquiring about rotors. Currently my fronts have worn down but the pads are still about 80%. Im not going to do any track days and if I ever make it to an auto-x again it will be maybe once or twice. So Im not looking for the best or biggest brakes to put there. I was looking into ATE, Powerslot and Brembo rotors. All seem to be in a decent price range for OEM size. What in your opinions is the most viable option and where can I get it? Should I go ahead and change my pads at the same time too even if they still have about 80% left? I have tried searching for the name of the company that someone had previously used, but cannot find it quickly. Anyone know offhand? Thanks. Gary Preece Louisville, KY

I've searched various places such as pelican and zygmunt, to find it's not listed. I just have a simple crack and now chip out of the edge of one, can't justify paying this kind of price for merely a speaker grill. Does anybody have one lying around? Somebody likely upgraded or ditched them from their dedicated track car I am hoping. Prefer black, but guess I 'could' paint but would rather not. I have the upgraded HK package if that makes a difference, and it's the top most tweeter grill that is needed. Yes the chip looks ratty and I can't stand it. Patrick Goss 97 M3/4, sporting new fancy radiator btw!

I've been using Brembos on the M3, and IIRC used some Powerslot ones on the (departed) 328is. > What in your opinions is the most viable option and where can I get it? Short of having a local suggestion (don't know where you live :-)), check with one of the list sponsors at the bottom of this (or any) post. > Should I go ahead and change my pads at the same time too even if they > still > have about 80% left? That would seem unnecessary, wouldn't it? :-) Cheers, Jim Bassett

Another possibility is that the spring has worn out (my M3 seems plagued with this :-)). The spring is fairly-easily replaced. The part can be seen here: <http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CD93&mospid=47504&btnr=41_0808&hg=41&fg=25> Item #21 Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP

I haven't yet gone about replacing the spring, but with the door closed, and I push on the door at the top and bottom of the hinge, it closes proper and stay shut. Jim's idea of replacing the spring is probably a much better idea. I didn't even realize it until I saw picture of me at Thunderhill with the door swinging open on any left turn. Of course, now I tell people that I was going so fast, even the fuel door was hanging on for mercy. :) Drive Safely, Raza
