It's not like the guy wrote an essay on Japanese Cars, Swedish Cars, or even worse American Cars. The Porsche is a German Car! Yes it's not an M3 but we are all car lovers to some extent. He did not even talk about it until a list member asked. I will only speak for myself, but I like to hear other M3 owners and there view on other automobiles that they like personally. My 97 M3 will not be around forever. I am going to have to buy something else eventually (big tear drop) If you want only M3 info pick up a Bentley manual. If you want P-car talk join Rennlist, I'm pretty sure they have a BMW section. I joined the E36 M3 list to discuss E36 M3 or even just E36 issues. If I want to hear about E30 M3 stuff I'm on that list, E30 325i I'm on the E30 group, general BMW BS, UUC list and UUC Garage. I don't care if the 997 is God's own personal weekend vehicle I can't afford one and I don't want to hear about it. Take the P-car praise off-list. :-) Now who wants to help me diagnose my E21, surely someone here has E21 fetish? ;-) -Carlos 98 M3

Exactly what I was looking for and needing. Thanks lots. I am not absolutely sure that I didn't drive with my e-brake engaged. It is possible. I'll just have to get a spare set of pads when I dismantle the rear and put on the new rotors which I need anyway. If I don't need them I can always return them. Thanks again, Marc 95M3

Damn fine looking cars, however - inside and out. I almost went the S4 direction when shopping for a sedan last year, but the lease rates were not attractive, and they are a bit tight on rear seat legroom for my use. Ended up with a Caddy CTSV instead. Not a sports car btw - nor is the Audi. Decent enough sedan for the price - good bang for the buck. Not a great car like an M3 or Carerra or M5 is, however. Scott "Tom, Steven" <stom@qualcomm.com> wrote: Date: Tue, 18 Apr 2006 15:03:07 -0700 From: "Tom, Steven" Subject: RE: [E36M3] FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars (now Porsche story - long) I have seen the M3 comp package and I do like it. Seems like a well spent $4k upgrade. I also like the SMG option. I can't wait for Porsche to come out with their DSG version. I never drove the comp package but have driven E46 M3's in both manual and SMG. In the end, I knew that the E90 M3 was coming out shortly and would really like to have the V8 even though it breaks a bit of heritage with the 2 extra cylinders. If the E90 M3 was out, I would have taken a solid look at it. As for the RS4, nice car, prefer BMW's. It seems that Audi's have always gone a softer route than the BMW. The BMW's feel more like a driver's car to me than the Audi. One of the things I really like about this 997 is the fact that it retains that driver type feel. Sure there's too many buttons on the center console but the dash wraps around you similar to the E36's. If you look at the new 5 and 3 the dash's are starting to get less driver orientated. I believe they are doing this to get the passenger involved in the controls. I don't necessarily that like the idea. And the i-drive, whoa! steve -----Original Message----- From: Scott Stiles [mailto:stiles_s@hotmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2006 2:39 PM To: E36M3 Subject: RE: [E36M3] FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars (now Porsche story - long) Date: Tue, 18 Apr 2006 14:33:39 -0700 From: "Scott Stiles" Subject: RE: [E36M3] FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars (now Porsche story - long) Congratulations! I'm sure you'll love it -- I hope you have a smidge better luck w/yours than I had w/my '03 996. However, if my 996 looked as good as the 997 (both inside and out), I probably would have put up with the problems happily :) Did you by chance consider the M3/competition-pack? This is the first iteration of the e46 m3 that actually gets my juices flowing... What about an RS4? Congrats, Scott. -----Original Message----- From: Tom, Steven [mailto:stom@qualcomm.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:59 AM To: E36M3 Subject: RE: [E36M3] FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars (now Porsche story - long) Date: Tue, 18 Apr 2006 08:51:11 -0700 From: "Tom, Steven" Subject: RE: [E36M3] FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars (now Porsche story - long) Okay ... you caught me! Sharp eye though it's not a Cayman. I just got an 06' 997S. Yes I made the switch to P-car land sorry to say. The thought process was that my 96' M3 was 10 yrs old w/ 92k on the clock. Fairly low mileage but was going to start needing some work. I tried figuring out what would be the next logical step to another sports car. All of the Japanese rocket stuff was out. I looked at an M5 or the new M6 but didn't want the size or the weight. Audi's are nice but I would never spend the money on one. The new M3 was not coming out for another year. What other choices were there? So I test drove a 997S and Cayman. The Cayman was nice and handled well but speed wise felt exactly like my M3. Understand that I had the Eurosport/JimC Cam Kit w/ 245rwhp. The power build up on the Cayman just felt too similar to my M3. And if I was going to spend that much money on a car, I wanted to be impressed. So I test drove the 997S. Whoa! This thing's a beast! It was very effortless in the way it made power. I honestly was awed and impressed. Handling was quite a bit different and sets up a little funny in corners. I don't imagine myself trail braking all too much anymore but the overall speed at which I can take corners is still greater. So I started looking for a 997S. I ended up picking up a 2006 997S w/ 2500 miles with a ton of options. I also pushed to get the Certified Pre Owned so I can get the 6yr/100k warranty too. I love the car. It also has the PCCB brakes which are huge $$$$ option. The beautiful thing is that the brakes don't dust! So from the PCCB brakes to the leather dash, I love the car. steve -----Original Message----- From: M540 [mailto:m540@bellsouth.net] Sent: Sunday, April 16, 2006 4:19 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2006 19:13:00 -0400 From: "M540" Subject: [E36M3] FS: 96' M3 Exhaust, Springs/Shocks, Sway Bars Steve, Is that a Cayman hiding behind your muffler? I too have heard about this drop in and play; however based on my research (posted by Bob Butler) this may not be a right fit: <StartQuote> (copied and pasted from BF): It depends on which fuel pump your 95 currently has. BMW switched the fuel pump siphon method mid-year in 1995. The old style pump had a white top and both an inlet and exit fuel lines out of the top. The newer style has a blue top and only an exit fuel line. You "CAN NOT" switch the two without making other changes. If you already have the blue top, it is the newer style. Many people want to switch to the old style for better fuel feed during high g right handers. <EndQuote> Since mine is a 98 and has a newer/blue top with only an exit fuel line on top, what changes do I need to make to accommodate the white top inlet and exit fuel lines?
