Get extras too - in case you tear one > while installing it. The kits from Autozone or Advance or wherever really suck, the materials and quality are horrible, you truly get what you pay for. I would never use them for something like a caliper. I would only use genuine Ate parts (or equivalent). Then again, I also use plastilube and Ate brake caliper grease when rebuilding calipers. Turns out that the Brembo rotors actually came with a spare rotor bolt in the box. Depending what brand of rotors you got, you might be able to save a trip to the $tealer. It's a 30-minute drive for me, so I avoid it like the plague. If you're using anti-sieze, you can torque that baby down like no tomorrow without any worry (as long as you don't go stripping threads and making a mess). Not that you should need to, want to, or plan to, but don't worry about it if using antisieze. >Lawrence Barbieri wrote: >Obviously, you'll have to visit the parts department at the dealer for a >replacement screw. My mileage increased about 2-3MPG with just the aircleaner change. I used BMW synthetic for the first 50K, then switched to Mobile 1 5W-30, and now use 0W-40 "European formula". I use standard Redline fair everywhere else. Car has 124K miles and runs as well or better than new. My best mileage ever was pre-K&N when I drove 110 miles through the mountains at an average speed of 94 MPH. Speeds varied from 55 (the speed limit) all the way to the limiter. I received 29MPG on that segment. Mileage was verified at the gas pump with a calculator. Go figure. Matthew

Funny... they can still sell them at a profit for $3. Also note that Ate probably does not own a "grease" factory and just buys the stuff from the lowest bidder... but hey what ever works for you. As long as it still stops its a win.

That being said, I've been driving a new G35 coupe for a few weeks, and I have to say that it's a very fine car in a lot of ways. The engine is rougher and tends to hang at RPMs more than the M3, but the power is there and the thing handles very well. At 3524 pounds it's not as heavy as I thought it was going to be 8^), and the brakes work damn well (ask me how I know). And it's a good looking car, which is more than I can say about any new BMW. - Greg mdriver13@aol.com said the following on 4/20/2006 8:58 AM: > Date: Thu, 20 Apr 2006 11:55:32 -0400 From: mdriver13@aol.com > Subject: Re: [E36M3] This car is amazing... > > Yep, reminds me of my 350Z test drive two years back. All this talk of gas mileage cracks me up.......I doubt ANYONE on this list bought this car for the gas mileage. While it's a minor concern (especially given gas prices), I bought this car for the performance and handling. Extensive mods decrease economy, but who cares? We need horsepower!! Gas mileage has always been pretty low on my list when considering car purchases. Brad DeMotte '97 M3 with many mods & poor MPG

#12. Fuel Injector Noise.. - from Jesse Chamberlain
Top
Date: Thu, 20 Apr 2006 12:26:15 -0400 From: "Jesse Chamberlain" <jesse.chamberlain@gmail.com> Subject: Fuel Injector Noise.. I've started to notice a new noise coming from the engine compartment of my M3. I have a 99 M3, it has just over 57K miles. I started noticing what sounded like ticking coming from the engine compartment, so I lifted the hood, and it was coming from the fuel rail area. It doesn't sound like lifter tick, it has more of a plastic-y sound to it, (not like my description helps much). I always use 93 octane gas, and I am going to fill up the tank with some new gas today to see if it is just bad gas. Could it be a clogged injector or an injector going bad? I am going to check all of the electrical connections to them tonight to make sure they are all making good contact. The engine doesn't seem like it's down on power. I've been driving the car pretty much everyday since mid-March, and I just started noticing it earlier this week. I live in western mass, and they use 10% Ethanol in the gas, I don't know if that could be the issue. Any ideas would be appreciated, aside from the occasional ASC light, this car has been awesome for the last 2 and 1/2 years I've owned it. Thanks for any info!
