Immediately there was a clunk in the right front. He is running ACS wheels that required a 20mm spacer to clear the COs. We changed out hats, removed the sway bar end link, and swapped to my 7.5 LWTs to see if that would solve the issue. As it turns out there is some internal damage to that right hand strut and this week we removed the whole shebang. He will be shipping it off to Bilstein for repair. As a side note: We used the 328 sway bar link hardware to attach to the M3 Sway Bar and on removal there was noticeable damage to the links due to odd angle contact of the link to the control arm attach bracket, though this might have been because this car was 'in the weeds' low. -------------------- 10 -------------------- From: "Dave DeBuhr" <debuhr@comcast.net> I have a 98 M3/4 with the Ground Control race/serious track kit (whatever that means). Anyway, I'm getting a pretty significant rattling/clunking from the right front. I checked and torqued the front sway bar end links (Eibach bars with OEM links), the lower and upper strut bolts/nuts, I have removed and lubed the GC CC plates, and upper spring hats where they contact the spring. I run The hybrid hats FWIW. I have also hit the top nut on the strut with the impact wrench. Still have the noise as I go over bumps and rough pavement while turning or going in a straight line. This started happening all at once. It sin not something that gradually got worse. I will pull the CC plate one more time and recheck the bearings and relube. Is there a bolt that holds the strut insert in the strut body that could come loose or something? Control arm issue. Any ideas would be appreciated! Dave DeBuhr 98 M3/4 ps, yes I checked my lugnuts. ;-)

#2. E-Brake Cable Removeal - from Burgess, Kim L

Date: Fri, 21 Apr 2006 07:34:38 -0700 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> Subject: E-Brake Cable Removeal I'm in the process of helping a club member strip and cage a 95 E36M3. He has decided to remove the parking brakes and all associated hardware. All that went pretty well accept when I attempted to extract the E-Brake cables they some how hung-up and I cannot fully extract them from the car. They seem to be stuck on something right above the fuel tank? Does the tank have to come out to fully remove (even to R-n-R) the cables? Exhaust and drive shaft? TIA KLBurgess

It doesn't weigh much and the first time his tie-down straps loosen while towing he'll appreciate not having to replace the car. - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar

#5. PSS9 experience vs H&R c/over - from Brian Ruiz
Top
Date: Fri, 21 Apr 2006 13:27:19 -0700 From: "Brian Ruiz" <eurowerke@gmail.com> Subject: PSS9 experience vs H&R c/over A message was posted a while back to the list requesting information from any members who have a Bilstein PSS9 kit on their cars. I am considering the switch from my regular Bilsten Sports + H&R OE Sport springs to a coilover set. I was wondering if the PSS9 coilovers are generally considered to be as harsh as the regular Bilstein sport shocks, or if they are a pretty good ride on the street compared to the H&Rs. I am leaning toward the H&Rs right now for 98% street duty, but the one thing that turns me off is that they look like they are only plated rather than painted like the BIlsteins, and they will rust with age. Is this true? I'm mainly wondering about the comparison of the H&R kit vs. the PSS9s. Thanks! Brian build 8/95

#9. Track Car Alternative... - from Marc Plante

I suppose the $35k price doesn't quite touch the going rate for used E36Ms (OBMWC) , but the performance stats are very compelling... This could be discussed at the UUC digest board. I figure that I'm not sure what to buy when my E36M finally tires out several years out. it's really nice to see hardware like this on the horizon. 200 hp 1200 lbs 0-60 in 3.4 160+ top end http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/04/atom_supercar/index_01.htm?campaign_id=yahoo Marc Plante E36 M3/4 70k Vienna, VA

#10. Seat Leather - from Mark D

Date: Sat, 22 Apr 2006 13:04:04 -0400 From: Mark D <mdlkml@atari-source.com> Subject: Seat Leather Hello guys, I need new leather for my Vader drivers seat in my 1996 E36 (black seats). Can anyone suggest a cheap source or perhaps instructions for an upholsterer to make it cheap? You know eBay they sell a pair of Vader seats for wannabe's and they go for almost $1000 or sometimes more and I just don't need that. If anything I need a piece of leather, some leatherique and a skilled upholsterer. Any suggestions for fixing the drivers side side-bolster would be wonderful as I think we all probably have a little damage and cracking there. Thanks, Mark
