I just cant figure out why I cant do what I thought I could do. So now after ordering and receiving new rotors and pads, Im sitting next to my passenger side caliper gushing brake fluid on the floor after pulling the piston out. Cleaned up the piston and theres no rust spots or rings. I jam it back into the caliper just to stop the fluid from coming out. Now, I cant get the piston to go back in, it wont budge. WTF~! I couldnt break the seal from the brake line either so I couldnt remove the caliper from that. Anyone live in the area that I could pay to help me here? So the caliper is still attached to the lines? There's no way you're going to get it back on with your barehands if you can't detach the caliper from the line. I don't even know if there is any clearance to get a tool to fit between the piston and the outside "fingers" of the caliper to attempt to push it back in against all the hydraulic fluid. Get a good flare nut wrench or one from Sears and put a vise clamp on it to force it as tight as possible and break the line loose from the caliper. Good luck, Chester --- Alex Demsky <hyper_m3@hotmail.com> wrote: > Im thinking I should just stop where I am, pack up the car and sell it. I installed mine with the cylinder head on a bench - I'm sure its possible but I can't imagine doing the same job on the car. You'll need all your patience and every conceivable 11mm wrench (curved, angled, ratcheting, etc) and 11mm socket with various length 1/4 inch extensions that wobble and/or have U-joints. IIRC, you will need to get all of the nuts started and may need to progressively tighten them or you will run out of clearance for a few as you fully tighten down the others. And obviously the studs should all go in first. Good luck and let us know how it turns out as I may be going down a similar path soon on my 325i. I did it. took about 4hours IIRC. BUT I had all the A/C lines removed since it was in the race car. I can't imagine doing it with the a/c lines in the way. The reason the a/c lines are an issue is you need to come up from the bottom of the car to get to some of the nuts/studs.
